While the Lyric Theatre remains closed during renovations, the spirit of the Lyric was alive at Market Square yesterday with the theatres first fundraiser "Shades of Chautauqua."
Georgia Graham, President of the Lyric board provides details on the day's events.
"A collaboration of music, spoken word, youth performances, theatre all of it in one space. So, we had performances from Write Out Loud, our Youth Talent Night, our Open Stage and our theatre troupe just for mini performances here at Market Square."
In addition, a silent auction, 50/50 and hot dog sale also took place.
Graham says they were blown away by the community support.
"Really good for our first event. We're really happy with the community turn out, they have been so supportive and the donations we received were amazing. I can't say how grateful we are."
There should be some more fundraisers for the Lyric on the horizon according to Graham. She adds that they currently have an opportunity for the community to help out down at Swift Building Supplies. The Lyric has an account there and the public can make donations towards the large amount of drywall needed to complete the Lyric theatre renovations.
Graham added that they would like to thank the community and reassures everyone that they are here to stay, and they will get the theatre back open and continue with the events being held there.
