Beverley Anne Seibel (nee Rae) broke free from the ravages of Parkinson’s disease just before 2:00 am on September 14, 2023, in Herbert, Saskatchewan. Left crushed by her loss, but relieved that her suffering has ended are her dear husband, partner in crime, and caregiver, Roy, her daughters Natasha (Dwayne) and Anna (Darryl); her stepchildren Becky (Greg, daughters Sarah and Caitlin) and David (son Tyrone); her sister Jennifer (sons Mark and Mike); her sister-in-law Susan (daughters Lauren and Traci); and many beloved family members and friends. Beverley was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Joy Rae, and her brother David.
Beverley was born on October 22, 1948, in Paterson, New Jersey. When she was young, the family moved to Font Hill, Ontario. They relocated to Scotland after Beverley finished high school, and she completed her teacher training at the University of Aberdeen. Beverley spent 2 years in Ghana, Africa, as a volunteer instructor at a teaching college. This experience changed her, and she cherished the memories and knowledge she collected during her time there. After returning to Canada, Beverley completed a Master’s Degree in Counseling. Later she worked for the Hudson Bay Company as a staff trainer, and supported the opening of a number of stores, including the West Edmonton Mall location. In 1981 Beverley returned to teaching in a K - 12 school in Niton Junction, Alberta. There she met her husband-to-be. The couple bought and moved to a farm, where they laughed, grew, played, and worked together for twenty years as they raised their daughters. When the girls left home in 2003, Roy and Beverley moved to Lacombe, Alberta, where she pulled the neighbourhood together, volunteered all over the place, and passed many hours in her garden. In 2010, Roy and Beverley visited Herbert, Saskatchewan for a birthday party, and left as the new owners of a house and former horse farm at the edge of town. Herbert was their dream retirement destination, with a massive garden, friendly neighbours who quickly became like family, and plenty of volunteer opportunities. Two years later Beverley was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. In 2020 she moved into the Herbert Long Term Care Facility when her illness became too difficult to manage safely at home. Here Beverley made close friends, and received care and compassion that exceeded our wildest expectations, until she ultimately passed away.
Beverley lived every moment to its fullest. To be loved by Beverley meant receiving the warmest hugs, beautiful knitted gifts, delicious meals (usually with ingredients from her garden), heartfelt conversations, perfectly timed sarcasm and wit, and a listening ear always at the ready. Beverley was passionate about teaching, and brought this passion everywhere she went. She loved people, and would take any opportunity to meet and connect with others. Even as her illness progressed, she worked tirelessly to build and maintain relationships. Beverley stuck to her convictions, sometimes to the point of stubbornness, much to the delight and annoyance of those closest to her. She loved fiercely and deeply. That love is still strong in our hearts. She gave us the tools we needed to survive losing her.
Beverley faced her illness with characteristic courage and love of life. She continued uplifting others, organizing events and fundraising to improve the lives of those impacted by Parkinson’s disease. Even in her final days she fought valiantly to give her loved ones gifts of love that they will carry for the rest of their lives. We are forever changed by her love, and by her absence.
A celebration of Beverley will be held on October 22, 2023, her 75th birthday, in Herbert, Saskatchewan. More details will follow via the family’s Facebook pages. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Parkinson Canada, or participation in the Parkinson SuperWalk in memory of Beverley.
