In less than a month, the 40th Avenue Overpass is slated to be completed and opened to traffic. However, in the coming weeks, motorists can expect lane closures that will impact the flow of traffic.

Upcoming lane closures:

  • Beginning on Monday, September 25, and lasting till Tuesday, September 26 (9 a.m. - 4 p.m):
    • Both the Southbound and Northbound lanes of the QEII in the vicinity of the overpass construction will be closed; one lane will be closed in both directions - including the Northbound shoulder lane as well as the Southbound shoulder lane. The closures are meant to facilitate line painting removal

  • Beginning on Monday, September 25, and lasting till Wednesday, September 27 (9 p.m. - 6 a.m.):

    • Both the Southbound and Northbound lanes of the QEII in the vicinity of the overpass construction will be closed; two lanes will be closed in both directions. It is important to note lanes will change depending on the day. The closures are meant to facilitate the painting of the QEII overpass. 

  • Beginning on Thursday, September 27 and lasting till Saturday, September 30 (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.):

    • Both the Southbound and Northbound lanes of the QEII in the vicinity of the overpass construction will be closed; one lane will be closed in both directions. The closures are meant to facilitate stripping along the QEII. 

  • Beginning on Monday, October 2 and lasting till Friday, October 6 (9 p.m. - 6 a.m.):

    • Both the Southbound and Northbound lanes of the QEII in the vicinity of the overpass construction will be closed; two lanes will be closed in both directions, including the Northbound median & centre lane as well as the Southbound median & centre lane. The closures are meant to facilitate high mast pole installation.

Other noted closures that are already in effect and will continue until construction is complete and the 40th Avenue overpass is opened for traffic, include:

  • The CPR overpass between Reynolds Gate and Southpoint Landing. There are traffic pattern changes in relation to this closure.

  • Kingsview Boulevard Southeast. There are traffic pattern changes & lane closures in relation to this closure.

  • Main Street - 60 meters South of the Airdrie Transit terminal has a sidewalk closure. 

  • Underneath the CP Rail on 40th Avenue Southwest along the Northeast corner of the Southpoint has a pathway closure. 

According to City of Airdrie officials, the estimated date for the QEII 40th Avenue Overpass bridge and roadways being opened for traffic is slated for Friday, October 13.
