A tough visit to Manitoba for the Swift Current Broncos as they fell 6-3 to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday evening.
A night after not allowing a goal against Calgary, the Broncos gave up a goal just 42 seconds in to former Bronco Kayden Sadhra-Kang. That was followed by Dominik Petr on the powerplay to give the Wheat Kings a 2-0 lead through one period.
Jayden Wiens added another to dig the hole deeper for the Broncos. However, the visiting Broncos would not go down without a fight as Mat Ward drug the Broncos into the fight scoring twice, once in the second and once in the third to get things to 3-2. Charlie Elick added another in the third for Brandon, but Caleb Wyrostok responded for the Broncos to keep it a one goal game at 4-3.
But after Caleb Wyrostok went down behind the Wheat Kings net off a heavy body check, the Wheat Kings went the other way and scored as Brett Hyland made it 5-3. An empty netter would make it 6-3, sinking the Broncos who fell to 1-3-0-0.
“There were definitely some good moments in the game,” said Taras McEwen on the post-game show. “We thought we had some really good scoring chances we just didn’t capitalize on. So, just disappointing, some of the mistakes and the details we’ve been talking about didn’t go our way tonight.
Joey Rocha stopped 23 of 28 in the loss.
The Broncos are back at it on Wednesday night as they visit the Wheat Kings once again.
