The Humboldt Broncos remained undefeated in the regular season with a solid 6 - 2 win over the visiting La Ronge Ice Wolves last night.
The Broncos turned on the offense early outshooting the Ice Wolves 23 - 4, but goalie Topher Chirico turned everything aside for a scoreless first period.
Matthew Van Blaricom got the scoring started for the Broncos with a pair in the second, while Connor Miller netted his first. The Ice Wolves got on the board on a power play goal at the end of the second as Ryan Silzer slipped a screened shot past Broncos’ netminder Benjamin Motew to make the score 3 - 1 after two.
In the third, Ice Wolves’ Bronson Babyak received a 5 minute major for a knee that sent Matthew Van Blaricom to the dressing room. Fisticuffs ensued, and when the dust settled after a pair of misconducts, the Broncos went to work on the power play with three consecutive goals. Spencer Bell scored a pair with assists from Travis Bryson, Cage Newans and Connor Thue. Bryson put one past Ice Wolves’ Chirico with Thue and Daylan Wiegel contributing.
A late holding penalty gave the Ice Wolves a power play, and a spinner off the stick of Raine Hodge snuck past Motew to lock the score in at 6-2. The Broncos outshot the Ice Wolves by a whopping 53 - 14 margin to pick up their third regular season win.
The Broncos gear up for a matinee this Sunday against the Notre Dame Hounds for a third regular season bout. Game time is 4 pm at the EPA.
