The Town of Crossfield has announced that Highway 574, just North of Airdrie will be undergoing an illuminating upgrade.
"Through collaboration with Transportation and Economic Corridors and Fortis Alberta, the Town of Crossfield is pleased to advise of the upcoming installation of street lighting through the Highway 574 corridor (Limit Avenue)," The Town stated on its website.
The installation of street lighting is estimated to be finished by the end of this fall and will consist of the installation of 26 cobra light standards.
According to the Town, the lights will make for safer driving conditions, as well as making vehicles more visible to pedestrian traffic, as well as provide illumination for motorists, pedestrians, domestic animals and wildlife. The lights will also allow pedestrians to feel safer while using the pathway during the darker hours of the day, while also adding security for those residents that back onto Highway 574.
The Town had begun looking into the possibility of street lighting in 2022 and in late May of this year, Crossfield's town council voted in favour of funding the project. The province will be providing an estimated $65,000 for the project, with the remainder of the funds being the town's responsibility.
