The Leader Farmers' Market is delighted to host a very young entrepreneur who is not to be taken for granite.
Reese McCallum is an eight-year-old girl from Liebenthal Saskatchewan, who has started making and selling rock creations. Her store is called Little Chick Emporium, of which she is the owner-operator.
“I have little necklace pendants that you can use on anything, there are little surprise bakes, and bubble wands with little, tiny rocks on the bottom of them,” Stated McCallum. “I also have mineral test kits with sample rocks in them, and I have little gold pans.”
McCallum is supported by the Leader Chamber of Commerce’s Young Entrepreneur Initiative, and she brought her business to the Leader Farmers' Market for more engagement.
“I had a grain bin that we call the rusty kettle,” she explained. “My dad put a spout and a handle to make it look like a kettle. I sold little biscotti and coffee and other stuff. We decided to come to the market because there were more customers.”
McCallum is passionate about her new line of work and shows great interest in both the labor of creating her product and the business side of marketing it.
“I love to cut rocks to see what's inside them,” she expressed. “I collect rocks and I find really cool rocks so that I can cut them up and then I sell them.”
