The Best Buddies program at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School is putting out a call for some festive donations to assist with an upcoming event.

Tara Christiansen a co-advisor with the Best Buddies program provides details on the foundation of the program.

"The overall mission of Best Buddies is to create opportunities for one-on-one friendship and relationships for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities."

The program has students try to meet twice a month to participate in special activities as well as pair students together. One of their first events of the year will be pumpkin painting as an advisor with the program Chelsea Hassett explains.

"We're kind of looking for 25 to 30 pumpkins. So we really appreciate the donations that can be given to us. So, it's an activity we get to do with the kids in the evening. We would like the pumpkins by the 20th so we can complete our activity with them at the end of the month."

The pumpkin donations themselves can be brought right to the main office of the Swift Current Comprehensive High School.

Hassett adds that the Best Buddies program provides a great opportunity for kids to take things in from a different perspective. She says they have had many students be a part of the program and then continue on to work with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program provides students who don't get to interact in a way other students do with the opportunity to do so.

Hassett and Christiansen wish to thank the community for all of their support including Decor Complete who they say has been a big sponsor and provided them with a Bronco booth for the past five years so they can take the kids and enjoy a game.
