It's been three years since TobyMac's first-born son, Truett, died at age 21. Now TobyMac is looking back at how this tragedy has strengthened his faith.
TobyMac recently performed at the 54th edition of The Dove Awards, where he took home the Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year: Life After Death. As well as the Short Form Music Video of the Year (Performance): 'The Goodness.'
After the awards, he shared with Christian Headlines what the past few years have been like. He said the contemporary Christian music industry has been a beautiful family and he is grateful for the people that have surrounded him.
When asked by Christian Headlines, what advice he would give to someone in a similar situation, he said, "Everyone grieves differently."
"I think you need to figure out that God gives and takes away, and you have to be okay with that. And once you're okay with that, I think your faith actually increases greatly. I found myself to be closer to God in the last three years than I ever have in my life. And I wouldn't wish it on anybody, of course, but I had to figure out and really believe that God is sovereign, and I had to trust that and then look for Him in the hard places -- like really look, and He's there. That's the thing -- He's there.”
