The West Central Events Centre in Kindersley saw good action all weekend long with the "Thunder on the Prairies" tournament. Teams in attendance were mostly from Saskatchewan and Alberta, and from as far east as Winnipeg.

The two host teams saw different results on Friday and Saturday to sit at different ends of the spectrum headed into championship Sunday. The U13 Thunder were in Sunday's D Final, and the U15 Thunder secured a spot in the A.

The U13 Thunder were forced to rebound from a winless stretch in pool play by playing in Sunday morning's D-final against the Northwest Sharks. They avenged their three previous losses with an impressive 7-4 win to claim a medal in their home tournament.

Looking at the U15 Thunder, they carried an unbeaten record into Sunday's A-final against the also undefeated Lloydminster Steelers.

The Thunder tied the game 2-2 late in the second period to set up an exciting final frame. Lloydminster took a multi-goal lead early in the third period before Western Prairie made their push, working hard to get within one, just for the Steelers to score another pair quickly and walk away with a 6-3 A-final win.

The Thunder couldn't hold off a Lloydminster team that hasn't lost yet this season

Lloydminster took the U15 A-final, and it was nearly a Steelers sweep on the weekend as their U13 team fell just short against the Regina Rebels in the U13 A-final.
