MacGregor farm supporting the Canadian Foodgrains Bank with the beauty of sunflowers
A sunflower field on the outskirts of MacGregor is raising awareness and funds for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
Dean Toews of Toews Farms Enterprises and chairman with Feed Other Countries Undo Starvation (FOCUS) talks about how one of his fields is letting Manitobans come by, enjoy the beauty of sunflowers, and hopefully, donate toward aiding world hunger.
Toews says that the sunflower field is currently at 50 per cent bloom.
Westlake-Gladstone Day Camp seeing fewer kids come to play
The Fun in the Sun Day Camp put on by the municipality of Westlake-Gladstone is in the home stretch of its program 2022 installment. There have been a lot of smiles this summer; however, they have noticed that there have been fewer participants.
J’lyn Funk from the Day Camp says that each summer, kids aged 5-12 from Gladstone and Plumas go to the camp Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m., with activities planned each day.
The program runs in Gladstone on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday and in Plumas on Thursday.
More disruptions to water services coming to Portage Friday
The City of Portage la Prairie is letting citizens know about more disruptions of water services coming to the City today.
Starting at 9 a.m. The area of 6th St. NW from 5th Ave NW to 6th Ave NW will have to deal with the disruption of water services due to water main construction.
The City notes that they intend to have the water services restored by the end of the day (Friday.)

RCMP traffic units seize large amounts of cash and drugs
Within a week, RCMP's Traffic Services Roving Patrol unit held two separate traffic stops, which concluded with the seizure of large amounts of cash and drugs.
Police say on July 28, 2022, at approximately 2:25 p.m., a man was pulled over in the RM of Portage la Prairie after an officer caught him speeding. An investigation led to the arrest of the 23-year-old man from Calgary, Alberta. He had a warrant for his arrest from BC.
Some Portage streets seeing water disruption Thursday
The City of Portage la Prairie is letting citizens know about the disruption of water services that some residents will have to deal with today.
Starting at 9:00 a.m., the west side of 11th Street SW from Saskatchewan Avenue W to Crescent Rd W and the east side of 12th Street SW from Saskatchewan Avenue to Crescent Rd W will see disruption of water services due to water main construction.
The City notes that they intend to have the water services restored by the end of the day (Thursday.)
Construction worker transported to hospital after worksite injury in Portage
The Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to an injury at a construction site in the city's west end earlier this week.
On Monday, August 8th, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a construction worker injured by a machine in a construction zone on the Trans-Canada Highway at the west end of Portage la Prairie.
According to police, the initial investigation has determined that a 26-year-old man from Brandon was working construction on site when he came into contact with a tow behind compactor causing significant injuries.
PRED looks back on the support received in second quarterly review
The Portage Regional Economic Development Corporation has revealed its second quarterly review for 2022, with a big emphasis on showcasing how Portagers have helped them out.

McCain Foods happy to see the community at Portage Potato Fest
Portagers got a little bit starchy for the first time in two years over the weekend.
The Portage Potato Festival saw the community return to celebrating from across the province for the first time since COVID-19 graced us with its presence.
Leah Gravatt, plant administrator at McCain Foods, explains that it was a great to see people out and enjoy all things potato, including free fries and pickle spears from McCain.
City announces new wave of mosquito fogging
The City of Portage la Prairie will be looking to get rid of mosquitoes once again as they're preparing for their next wave of fogging.
The fogging will take place with Delta Gard 20EW, weather permitting. The first day of fogging will be on Wednesday, August 10th, where all areas south of the track not including Koko Platz, Mellenville, and Old Bridge Road will be fogged. On Thursday, August 11th, all areas north of the tracks, including Koko Platz, Mellenville, and Old Bridge Road will be fogged.
Portage holding an information session on the city's new skatepark
The City of Portage la Prairie is encouraging citizens to learn more about the new skate park coming to town.
The City will hold an information session on the project on Tuesday, August 9th, at the existing skatepark.
The City says the skatepark project team will discuss the community survey results, present the newest skatepark concept, answer questions, and discuss the next steps forward at the event.
