Suspects flee on an ATV following the theft of thousands of dollars in copper wire
Treherne RCMP are looking for answers after an abundance of copper wire was stolen from the community.
On May 10th, Treherne RCMP received a report of copper wire being stolen in the RM of North Norfolk.
Several thousands of dollars of copper wire were removed from an irrigation system being installed.
According to the police report, the suspects used an ATV in the getaway and were travelling north of 53 N and east of Highway 242.
If anyone has any information about this incident, they are asked to call the Treherne RCMP at 204-723-2024.
Two Youths from Long Plain facing Theft charges
Portage la Prairie RCMP has pressed charges against two Long Plain First Nation youth.
Just before 1:00 am on May 2, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report that a business in the 500 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West had been broken into.
Officers arrived on the scene, located and arrested one youth, while another youth fled the area.
Police were able to confirm the identity of the second youth involved, who later turned himself in.
Both youths from Long Plain First Nation face charges of Breaking and Entering and Theft Under $5000.
Province warning Manitobans about Disaster Assistance phishing scam
The Manitoba government is cautioning the public of a possible SMS phishing scheme related to the Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) program.
Recently, there have been reports of citizens receiving text messages inviting them to claim $150 in financial assistance for disaster relief by clicking on fake URLs. Clicking on such links gives scammers the ability to access personal data.
The province stated in a news release that it does not use texting to contact the public about support for this program.
St. Laurent Royal Canadian Legion Metis branch hands out big money
Many people in the St. Laurent area were hoping to get lucky and take home some big money last weekend. A massive Chase the Ace jackpot was guaranteed to go with just one card left - the ace.
After selling close to $80,000 in tickets alone Saturday, the jackpot grew to just over $140,000 for the "Chase The Ace" event held by the St. Laurent legion. People came from all over the area and as far away as Alberta and many were tense to see who would win.

Lions Club looking to assist the community while holding membership drive
The Portage la Prairie Lions Club is looking to expand its membership while collecting donatable items for a local group.
Lion Robert Martin, president of Portage Voyageur Lions Branch Club, shares that this coming Saturday, at the Co-op, the club will be hosting a food, hygiene and membership drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

RCMP charge Portage man with Possession of a Weapon and Assaulting a Peace Officer
An Officer has sustained minor injuries after being assaulted by a 44-year-old man from Portage la Prairie.
Last Saturday, Portage RCMP received a report of an intoxicated man at a business in the 900 block of Saskatchewan Avenue East.
The suspect refused to leave the business and threatened an individual there.
An officer located the suspect not far away and spoke to him. The suspect was uncooperative with the officer and was then told that he was under arrest.
IIU investigating allegation of serious injury to a Portage teenager
The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is looking into circumstances surrounding an allegation of a serious injury sustained by a 17-year-old man while being arrested.
On May 4, RCMP advised the IIU of an incident on 11th Street NW Portage la Prairie.
Portage RCMP respond to three delivery drivers being robbed in short time span
Portage la Prairie RCMP are searching for suspects after responding to three similar robberies within a two-week period.
On April 23, at approximately 10:05 pm, RCMP responded to a robbery on Oak Bay.
A delivery driver was on Oak Bay dropping off pizzas when he was approached by a man.
The man threatened the victim with a knife, stole the pizzas and fled on foot.
The victim, a 38-year-old man, was not physically injured.
The suspect is described as male, wearing dark clothing and a surgical mask.
RCMP arrest Arden man for child pornography
The Manitoba RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) received several complaints from the RCMP National Child Exploitation Crime Centre regarding the possession of child pornography in western Manitoba. As a result of the complaint, on May 3, the ICE unit, the RCMP Digital Forensics Services Unit along with the assistance of Neepawa RCMP Detachment, executed a search warrant at a residence on Saskatchewan Drive in Arden, Manitoba.
