Saskatoon Police look for a suspect in a machete attack outside a shopping centre

The assault occurred around 4:30 Monday afternoon outside a shopping mall in the 3500 block of 8th Street East.

A group of young people confronted a person seated outside a store. The altercation escalated when a suspect used a machete to strike the victim. Police found a 16-year-old boy inside the mall with non-life threatening injuries.

Two 15-year olds were arrested on a nearby City Transit Bus nearby. The pair were arrested without incident and charged with assault.

Two University of Regina football players among five arrested in major drug bust

Regina Police say an estimated $1.5 million of drugs and cash were seized in a bust last Thursday and Friday.

Eight search warrants were executed in Regina, as well as in the Alameda and Frobisher areas in southeast Saskatchewan, near the US border.
Just over $151,000 in cash was recovered along with the following drugs—-7.5 kilograms of fentanyl, 476 grams of cocaine and 22 grams of methamphetamine.

Three vehicles were seized along with a restricted 9mm handgun, a 22-caliber handgun and ammunition.

Grain Services Union serves 72-hour strike notice to Viterra

The two sides have been in contract talks for more than a year with Grain Services Union Local 1 (Viterra Country Operations and Maintenance) and Local 2 (Viterra Regina Head Office), rejecting the company’s final offer on December 15.

The union says, in a statement, they are seeking “fair wages, improved work-life balance, and workplace respect.”

Talks are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in Regina, in an effort to avoid a strike or lockout. The Grain Services Union (GSU) could walk off the job as soon as 2 pm on Friday.
