Cultivating History: Women’s Perspectives on Ag at Manitoba Agriculture Museum

Three new exhibitions have been featured this summer at the Manitoba Agricultural Museum in Auston (MAM), each sharing a unique perspective on agriculture and how they fit into our historical landscape.

Museum curator, Tricia Dyck, says she was honored to incorporate these diverse perspectives on agriculture into their regular programming and on-site displays.

Celebrate Excellence: Manitoba's Best at Weekend Sheep Show

Manitoba's Annual Sheep Show and Sale is taking place this weekend in Minnedosa. This year's show will feature eight different pure-bred breeds and 107 entries for rams and ewes in different classes from across Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

This event is for producers to show the quality stock they raise, followed by a junior show where the kids show their Showmanship. 

Manitoba Battles 71 Active Wildfires Amidst Persistent Hot and Dry Conditions - Fire Bulletin #15

There are currently 71 active wildfires across the province, with a total of 233 wildfires to date. Lightning and human caused fires continue to persist with hot and dry conditions although there could be some scattered and isolated showers across Manitoba over the next few days.

BU research aims to unlock the potential for early breast cancer detection and therapy

Earlier this month Brandon University announced receiving financial support through Research Manitoba of $20,000 to international student, Shamima Anonna, to continue her study on early indicators of breast cancer. Anonna is in the Master of Science (Environmental and Life Sciences) program at BU, working in Dr. Mousumi Majumder’s Breast Cancer Cell & Molecular Research Laboratory (BCCMRL).

Anglers reminded of new Manitoba sport fishing regulations

The Manitoba Wildlife Federation (MWF) is reminding anglers to be familiar with the new size and possession limits across the province when it comes to catching and keeping walleye.

For years anglers had a choice between two different possession limits; a general angling license or a conservation license. But that has now changed to one possession limit across the province when it comes to Manitoba's most popular fish, walleye also known as pickerel.

Sunshine Highway Relic Run recreates driving tour of early 1920's

When Manitoba historian, Dr. Gordon Goldsborough, travelled from the Ontario border to the Saskatchewan border last summer, he was surprised at the amount of people who contacted him after the tour, asking if he had plans to do it again.  One of those phone calls were from folks in Crystal City, inviting Goldsborough to recreate the driving tour on the old Sunshine Highway that leads through their town,

Dry lightning, thunderstorms in forecast, could result in additional wildfires- Fire Bulletin #12

The Manitoba Wildfire Service continues to respond to 51 active wildfires across the province. While the total of 155 fires to date this year remains below the average of 264 for this date, fire activity is picking up. Dry lightning, or thunderstorms with little to no precipitation is in the forecast over the next couple of days, which may result in additional starts.

Crews from Ontario with 21 personnel continue to assist wildfire operations across the province.
