Team Canada competed with determination and skill at the 2025 Junior Roller Derby World Cup, held July 26 to 28 at Mount Warren Sports Centre in Queensland, Australia.

Among the team was Estevan’s own Cecilia McCaskill, representing the Southeast on the international stage.

Playing in the Open Division, Canada showed strong teamwork and fast-paced action in a series of exciting matches.

July brought a beautiful mix of sunshine, heat, and those classic summer storms—but no matter the weather, pet lovers across Estevan kept the entries coming!

This month’s contest brought in a fantastic mix of furry (and not-so-furry) friends. We had playful pups, cool cats, a hamster named Tony, and even a goat named Winnie—all showing off their charm for a shot at the title of July’s Perfect Pet.

Estevan was well represented at the 2025 Canada Cup in Thorold, Ont., over the weekend, with three athletes and a coach playing key roles on Team Saskatchewan’s U17 and under-16 U16 Selects squads.

The U17 Green Selects, featuring Estevan players Keith Daae and Aidan Turner and coached by Bryton Such, captured the bronze medal. The team posted a 4–2 overall record, finishing second in their pool with wins over the Newfoundland and Labrador Canada Games team (NL CG) and the Manitoba Canada Summer Games team (Manitoba CSG), along with a narrow loss to Alberta U17.

A pair of back-to-back fundraisers is bringing the Estevan community together this weekend to support a four-year-old girl named Aubrey Dyck and her journey toward walking independently for the first time.

Aubrey, who was born with extremely tight Achilles tendons, has never walked on her own. Now, with a surgery booked in New Jersey for September 2025, her parents Kimberley and Tanner Dyck are working to raise $90,000 to help cover the cost of surgery, travel, therapy, and recovery.

Looking for a unique way to spend the August long weekend? Broken Arrow Youth Ranch, operated by Solid Rock Ministries, is inviting you to Ride the Rails in Ogema, Saskatchewan on Sunday, August 3 — all in support of a powerful cause.

The event features two scenic train rides with Southern Prairie Railway, a BBQ meal by Bud’s BBQ, live music, and a guided tour through the stunning Big Muddy Badlands — just two hours west of Estevan.

The U17 Estevan Elite girls fast-pitch team capped off a successful 2025 season with a solid showing at the Softball Saskatchewan U17B Provincial Championships this past weekend in Rosthern.

The tournament featured 21 teams from across the province, and Estevan opened pool play Friday with an impressive 14–7 victory over the Regina Saints — the top B-ranked team from the Queen City. Sadie Aspinall earned Estevan’s Player of the Game honours in the win.

Between open mics, movie nights, and live music, there’s no shortage of summer fun happening at Woodlawn Regional Park — and this week, local performer Conner Piche is taking the spotlight.

Conner joined the SUN 102 Morning Show to perform a song and talk about his upcoming show on Thursday.

The Estevan Public Youth Centre (EPYC) is turning Mondays into a highlight of the summer for local youth. After a wildly successful spaghetti-eating contest, the centre is back with another free event — the “Eggs-travaganza” relay night on July 21. The fun is part of EPYC’s ongoing effort to create safe, inclusive spaces for connection and creativity.

It was a packed and cozy evening at Woodlawn Regional Park as the latest Michael’s Coffee Shop & Bakery Open Mic brought music and community spirit to the park’s Binzebo. What started as a scramble to avoid rain turned into a memorable night under glowing string lights, with music echoing from the stage and lawn chairs filling the space.

The smell of pancakes and the sound of kids splashing in the paddling pool set the tone for a lively morning in Estevan.
