Impressions Gift Company is open later than ever for the holiday season. Co-owners Mandy and Brad Wilson have stocked their shelves with local Saskatchewan-made and Canadian-made products, as well as plenty of popular items.

“We have some product from the US, but we try to keep it Canadian as much as possible,” Brad shares. “Most everything here you won’t find in other places locally- there’s some overlap, but for the most part, it’s all unique.”

The opportunity was almost too good to be true.

This December, Southeast Saskatchewan won’t need to travel far to experience the excitement of the National Finals Rodeo (NFR). The Estevan Exhibition Association is hosting Where Vegas Meets Country, a three-day extravaganza inspired by the iconic Las Vegas event. Kicking off on December 5, the celebration offers something for everyone.

According to new public opinion research from the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), 70 percent of Canadians admit to speeding in a residential area at least once in the last year, half say they regularly speed on the highway, and fully one in five drivers say they regularly drive well over the speed limit.

“Higher speeds reduce drivers’ reaction time and increase the risk to themselves and everyone else,” said Kristine D’Arbelles, senior director, public affairs, CAA National.

Yesterday, YOU, the community, came out and supported food banks all over the southeast by donating non-perishable items and cash for the Blow Away Hunger Food Drive! Southern Plains Co-op locations in Estevan, Carlyle and Oxbow participated in the 12-hour event that saw the community give to the less fortunate. 

Since 1946, Southern Plains Co-op has been a cornerstone of local communities. Today, the organization celebrated the grand opening of its new food store in Carlyle.

Southern Plains Co-op General Manager Brian Enns said the new store is part of the Co-op's efforts to meet community needs and expand operations.

"Some of the things we've done in recent years include building a new grocery store with a convenience gas bar and a liquor store in Oxbow. We've also added a couple more liquor stores, one in Carlyle and one in Estevan," Enns said.

The Estevan Minor Football (EMF) had a stellar season this year with franchise firsts and a renewed interest for female tackle football.

"I mean for support from the community, the crowds that came out this year, they were pretty pretty big from the previous years. Especially when you have two playoff home games this year, that's never...happened before either, from one team anyways," shared EMF president Pat Ford. 

Over 300 entries. About $1,000 raised for local charities. Five broadcasts. Six qualifiers. 

One winner. 

Earlier this morning, we gave away the ULTIMATE prize: a $3,000 trip to wherever they want to go! Congratulations to Bev Holinaty, as she gets to Jet Outta Town with a travel voucher from Denise Taylor at TravelOnly! She told us she was barely awake when we called her. 

"It was on my mind all night, thinking 'I wonder who's gonna win it' but I was going to be happy for whoever won it," she shared. 

These are exciting times for Arcola Co-op. In June, it acquired Arcola Building Supplies Ltd., and it recently added a liquor section to the Gas Bar as part of a broader facility makeover.

Something that hasn’t changed amidst the business’s growth, however, is its commitment to a welcoming, customer-centred shopping experience.
