4 charged in Southern Manitoba child pornography case

Four men have been arrested and charged in a southern Manitoba child pornography case. 

The RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit executed five search warrants in three communities over an eight-day period at the end of March, leading to the discovery of tens of thousands of child pornography images. Authorities also removed three children under the age of six from situations where police say they were being sexually abused and exploited.

Flood risk remains low in southern Manitoba as spring thaw begins

The Hydrologic Forecast Centre of Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is advising the public that recent warm temperatures have created spring thaw and surface runoff has begun in most Manitoba basins.

As the melt continues, river flows and levels are expected to increase in the coming days and the ice on Manitoba’s lakes, rivers and creeks will become weaker. Ice conditions can change rapidly without warning and Manitobans are reminded to keep off the ice as temperatures continue to rise.

Manitoba fuel supply increases, repairs begin on Imperial Oil pipeline

The Manitoba Government says Manitoba's fuel supply has increased since repairs began on the Imperial Oil pipeline south of St. Adolphe.
    
The line, between Gretna and a Winnipeg terminal, was shut down 10 days ago after inspections earlier in the year led the company to make the proactive decision to carry out preventative maintenance to ensure the continued integrity of the line.
    

Hal Lavery named incoming VP at Vita's Shevchenko School

There will be a new Vice Principal at Shevchenko School in Vita, starting in September. 

Hal Lavery will replace Aaron Klassen who, according to the Border Land School Division (BLSD), has decided to use his gifts and passions in the classroom full time at the school.

An educator since 2011, Lavery's work experience includes teaching in the middle and high school areas of science, and he has provided support in Guidance and Resource.

Police awaiting autopsy results after missing Stuartburn woman found dead in woods

A 44-year-old woman from the Rural Municipality of Stuartburn has died after she went missing from her home early Saturday morning.
    
According to the report made to Emerson RCMP at 3:45 pm on Saturday, the woman left in a vehicle nearly 12 hours earlier - around 4:50 am. Family members indicated to officers that the vehicle had been found earlier in the day, in a ditch about one kilometre away, but after searching the immediate area, they were unable to find the woman.
    

Avery Griffith named incoming VP at Carman Collegiate

There will be a new Vice Principal at Carman Collegiate this fall. 

Avery Griffith joined the Prairie Rose School Division in 2015 and is currently a middle years French Immersion teacher at École St. Eustache. He will take over the VP position at Carman Collegiate effective September 3rd. 

A news release announcing Griffith's appointment noted his educational training includes a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education, and that he is currently in the process of completing his Masters of Education in Educational Administration.

Elm Creek dairy farmers recognized for their commitment to the local landscape

Ale and Hilly Riedstra of Riedbow Dairy in Elm Creek have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to the local landscape, earning the 2024 Redboine Watershed District's 2024 Watershed Award. 
    
Immigrating with their three oldest children from the Netherlands in 1987, the Riedstra's brought Riedbow Dairy to life that same year with 25 milking cows. Now, the dairy has grown to 850 milking cows.
