Manitoba Premier, Wab Kinew, says the Unexplained Wealth Act, introduced in the Legislature this spring, is aimed at cracking down on crime and keeping communities safe.
"I know public safety is such a big topic for a lot of people," he said during last week's Premier Report, which airs on CFAM 950. The Premier noted, the Act is another tool for law enforcement to crack down on drug traffickers and other organized crime groups who profit from crime.

Emerson-Franklin Reeve Dave Carlson is welcoming proposed changes to the province's Medical First Response (MFR) model that would allow municipalities to operate Community-Based First Response programs.
Carlson, who is also a local volunteer fire fighter, says the Municipality's emergency services department has been running a medical first response program for 40 years, but a change by the former PC Government requiring members register with the College of Paramedics of Manitoba and the necessary 312 hour of training, didn't fit with their volunteer-based model.

Not all Manitobans will receive the test alert on their mobile devices, however, due to various reasons including device compatibility, connection to an LTE network, cell tower coverage and device software and settings.

Premier Wab Kinew made the multi-year announcement in Carman Wednesday afternoon. The grassroots group has been singled out for its volunteers helped the community heal after a local mom, her three kids and niece were murdered in February.

Manitoba delegation returns from trade mission to Washington, D.C.
Premier Wab Kinew and his delegation have wrapped up a 3-day trade mission to Washington, DC.
The delegation included minister Lisa Naylor, former ambassador Gary Doer and members of the Premier's Business and Jobs Council, who represent a wide range of sectors in the province. Jamie Moses, Minister of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources was also on the trip.
Fire fighters extricate driver following two-vehicle crash south of Carman Thursday
A 24-year-old man remains in a Winnipeg hospital with non-life threatening but serious injuries, following a two-vehicle crash south of Carman Thursday afternoon.
According to Manitoba RCMP's initial investigation, a semitruck and a pickup truck were travelling south on Highway 3 when a second semi, heading west on Highway 23 crossed the intersection. This caused the drivers of the first semi and the pickup to slam on the brakes, however police say the pickup truck, which was towing a flat deck trailer, was unable to stop before hitting the semi in front of it.
RCMP arrest three teenagers in high school hockey team hazing incidents
A pair of hazing incidents, involving a high school hockey team this past winter, will result in criminal charges, according to Manitoba RCMP.
First reported to authorities on February 20, RCMP say two incidents took place, one in November and the second in January, at a Winnipeg hotel while the team was in the city to play in tournaments. They involved five male victims, aged 15 and 16, who were rookies on the team.
