New pieces of history highlights Carlton Trail College's 50th anniversary celebrations

The 50th anniversary was a special one for Carlton Trail College.   

Last week, the year-long festivities ended with the unveiling of a pair of new additions, a mural, and a metal structure from two artists that will help create a unique impression for years to come.  

The mural called “Empowerment Ring” was designed by Kayla Hanson. Meanwhile, the metal structure was created by Murray Cook, a long-time welding instructor. A time capsule was also incorporated into the metal structure.   

Negotiations to resume this week between STF and Sask. Gov.

The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation announced negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement will resume on Wednesday.  

An invitation was extended by the Teachers Bargaining Committee (TBC) was accepted by the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee. 

The TBC extended the invitation following the teachers rejected a tentative provincial collective agreement last week.  

Broncos acquire F Gabriel Filion from Estevan

The Humboldt Broncos made a trade on the weekend, picking up 2004-born forward Gabriel Filion from the Estevan Bruins in exchange for a player development fee.  

Filion collected 23 points (9G-14A) in 52 games last season. He was acquired by Estevan midway through the 2022-23 campaign and ended up with 19 points (11G-8A) in 30 games for the Bruins.  

Registration is now open for 111 km Challenge

 

The Northern Lights Movement for Kids 111 km Challenge is back for another year.    

During June, participants are encouraged to move by land or water, such as walking, running, biking, canoeing, kayaking, or swimming, to accumulate 111 km within 30 days.

You can participate as an individual, as part of a group, or by donating. 

113 new drivers in Saskatchewan issued suspensions for impaired driving in April

The results are in from SGI’s April Traffic Safety Spotlight, with 316 drivers exceeding the provincial limits for alcohol and drugs, while an additional 170 were charged under the Criminal Code for an impaired driving offence.   

A pattern emerged showing that new drivers in the province received a large amount of driving suspensions related to alcohol and drugs. 

Rescheduled: An evening of block print

This event has been rescheduled to meeting room #2 at the Uniplex on Thursday, July 4 from 6:30 to 9:00pm.

Young artists can learn how to leave a mark with their work.  

The Humboldt Museum will host a workshop, where youth aged 12 to 18 can learn more about Block Print with Annah Gullacher on Friday, June 8.  

From 6:30-8:30, artists will learn how to use the different tools to develop the skills needed for print marking. 

Spring Into Watson this Saturday

It will be an opportunity to revisit some old favourites and develop new connections at the annual Spring Into Watson event this Saturday, June 1.   

There will be a wide range of entertainment that will appeal to citizens of all ages.  

Chair of the Watson and District Chamber of Commerce, Roxanne Bagnall feels the day ignites spirit that gives everyone a chance to meet with familiar faces.
