Broncos cool off hot Red Wings with 4-3 overtime win
The Humboldt Broncos snapped the Weyburn Red Wings seven-game winning streak with a 4-3 overtime victory at the Elgar Petersen Arena on Tuesday night.
Kye Benoche opened the scoring for the Broncos after he corralled a bouncing puck in the slot and buried it for his fifth goal of the year.

The Humboldt Mohawks advanced to provincials after picking up a victory over John Paul II (North Battleford). Humboldt will travel to Lumsden to meet the Devils on Saturday.
Lee Dufort wants to provide a voice for residents as city councillor candidate
Ten candidates have put their name forward in the 2024 Municipal Election in Humboldt to serve as a city councillor.
Lee Dufort is one name that will appear on the ballot.
Dufort has been with several businesses in the community and is currently an Ag Specialist with Scotiabank. During his career he has seen firsthand the impact of local small business and agriculture in Humboldt.
Wynyard enters provincial playoffs with momentum after a 62-44 win over Ituna
The regular season ended off a high note for the Wynyard Bears high school football team, as they picked up a 62-44 win over the Ituna Trojans.
After both teams came away empty handed on their opening possessions, the points started piling up on the scoreboard.
Wynyard’s Dawson Malinowski opened the scoring with a 45-yard touchdown run.
Landen Stromme named captain for the Humboldt Broncos
The Humboldt Broncos have named their leadership group for the 2024-25 season.
Landen Stromme will wear the “C” for the Broncos this season. The Choiceland product is in his third season with Humboldt. Last season, he had 19 points (8G-11A) in 49 games for Humboldt. So far this season, Stromme has three points (1G-2A) in nine games.
There will be three assistant captains with the Broncos this year.

Megan Christianson is the candidate for the Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan in the Humboldt-Watrous constituency in the upcoming provincial election on October 28.
Originally from the Nipawin area, Christianson comes from a farming background. She’s now a social worker and currently owns a private counselling business in St. Brieux.

There are four candidates running in the Batoche constituency in the upcoming provincial election on Monday, October 28.
Erin Nicole Spencer is the Sask United Party candidate in Batoche.
Along with her husband and two children, her family resides in Warman after she grew up in Prince Albert.
Warm weather expected this week
The leaves may be falling now, but the daytime temperatures won't be dropping for the next few days.
We are expecting above normal high temperatures throughout the week.
Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins explains the warm October trend will continue.
“We got an upper ridge that is bringing in some unseasonably warm air to most of Saskatchewan but especially to the southern and central parts of the province.”
Broncos Jacob Strizzi named SJHL Forward of the Week
For the second straight week, Humboldt Broncos Jacob Strizzi has been named the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Bourgault Forward of the Week.
Strizzi is currently on a six-game scoring streak after he found the back of the net in all three Broncos games this past week, including four goals in the back-to-back matchups with the Battlefords North Stars. He ended the week with eight points (5G-3A).
