05 F Kye Benoche commits to Broncos for upcoming season

The Humboldt Broncos have announced that 2005-born forward Kye Benoche has committed to the team for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Benoche,a Campbell River, BC product split last season with the BCHL's Coquitlam Express and NCDC's New Jersey Rockets. 

After spending 18 games with Coquitlam, he had 22 points (8G-14A) in 23 games in New Jersey. He also added 4 goals in 3 playoff games. 

Three HCI Mohawks ready for next stage of their football careers following Senior Bowl

The paths for a trio of Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawk football players are about to branch off. Last month they enjoyed one final experience as teammates as members of the North squad in Football Saskatchewan’s Senior Bowl.    

Easton Ottmann (running back), Matt Schuett (defensive line), and Mason Bunko (offensive line) were the three representatives from Humboldt that took part in the annual All-Star game.      

4th Ave Closure

Beginning today, 4th Avenue will be closed between 10th Street and 14th Street to allow for road improvements.

The first phase of the project involves rebuilding and regrading the road. The work is expected to last for about three weeks.

Additional road closures will follow shortly after to install new curbing and paving the of 4th Avenue between 10th Street and 14th Street.  

St. Mary's Villa Walk and BBQ set to kick off Western Week in Humboldt

A few steps will go a long way this weekend.   

The St. Mary’s Villa Foundation will hold its second annual ‘Build A Home’ Walk on Sunday, beginning with the walk at 11:00, involving residents, family members, and friends.   

Executive Director Donna Muench says the walk began to raise funds for equipment for a new long-term care home.   

New pieces of history highlights Carlton Trail College's 50th anniversary celebrations

The 50th anniversary was a special one for Carlton Trail College.   

Last week, the year-long festivities ended with the unveiling of a pair of new additions, a mural, and a metal structure from two artists that will help create a unique impression for years to come.  

The mural called “Empowerment Ring” was designed by Kayla Hanson. Meanwhile, the metal structure was created by Murray Cook, a long-time welding instructor. A time capsule was also incorporated into the metal structure.
