Saskatoon Berries look to carry regular season success into playoffs

There has been no sophomore jinx with the Saskatoon Berries in the Western Canadian Baseball League in 2025. 

This past weekend, the Berries completed the regular season establishing a new record for regular season, finishing off with a 46-9 record. Saskatoon finished 12 games ahead of Medicine Hat to claim the Eastern Division. 

A trio of local players were on the Berries roster this past season. 

A well-deserved break for the Roughriders following a convincing win in Montreal

The Saskatchewan Roughriders earned their bye week on Saturday after a dominating 34-6 win over the Montreal Alouettes.  

Fresh off being named the top player in the Canadian Football League in the month of July, quarterback Trevor Harris had an impressive outing with a pair of touchdown passes with 289 yards and was over 70 per cent in passing attempts going 19/27.  

Saskatoon RCMP investigating collision involving two semi-trailers near Viscount

Saskatoon RCMP are seeking information about a multi-vehicle collision that happened on Highway 16 near Viscount.  

The incident occurred on Thursday, July 31 at approximately 1:45 p.m.  

An investigation determined that semi-trailers were involved with one semi-trailer travelling eastbound, and the other semi-trailer was travelling westbound at the time of the collision. 

Sizzling start to August with a warm long weekend ahead

 

As we head into the midpoint of summer with the arrival of the August long weekend in Saskatchewan, comes with it blazing heat over the next few days. 

While temperatures won’t force a heat warning, it will still be a toasty weekend as Environment and Climate Change Canada Scientist Christy Climenhaga explains.  

Water Tower Carnival making a splash on Saturday

If you’re staying in town this August long weekend, Humboldt’s Water Tower Carnival is bringing the fun to you—with a splash of lake-inspired excitement. 

Set against the iconic backdrop of the Humboldt Water Tower, the event promises a full day of water-themed carnival games and activities for all ages. Highlights include a treasure hunt, a juggling workshop, and performances by a roving circus arts entertainer. Visitors can also check out fire trucks up close with a special visit from Humboldt Fire Department. 

15U AAA Dodgers competing in Tier 2 Provincials in Regina

 

The 15U AAA East Central Dodgers are in the Queen City this weekend as they compete in the 15U AAA Tier 2 Provincial Championships.  

Following a regular season record 12-20, the Dodgers will be one of five teams competing for the Tier 2 Championship.  

On Friday afternoon, they open the tournament against the Swift Current 57’s at 1:00. 

Roughriders enter season’s toughest territory

The August heat is nothing compared to the pressure cooker the Saskatchewan Roughriders are about to step into—a six-game stretch that could define their position in the Canadian Football League (CFL) standings. 

During that stretch, the Roughriders will meet the Montreal Alouettes twice, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the Calgary Stampeders and their traditional home-and-home matchup with their prairie rivals, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Dry weather aids haying, but rain needed for crops in Humboldt area

Dry conditions in the Humboldt region allowed producers to make significant progress with haying this week, while cooler temperatures provided some relief for flowering crops. However, with a stretch of heat looming, producers are hoping for rain soon to support crop yields, encourage hayland regrowth, and improve pastures for livestock.
