Travel is still not recommended from Belle Plaine to Regina

Non-essential travel on many Saskatchewan highways is currently not recommended due to poor winter weather.

Highway 1 from Moose Jaw to Regina, the Regina Highway 1 bypass and the highway from Regina to Balgonie are temporarily closed.

Highways 47, 18, 39, and 9 around the Weyburn, Carlyle and Estevan area are also currently closed.

It appears that the clock may be ticking on the popular video-sharing app, after Canada recently issued a ban on the use of TikTok on government-issued mobile devices. 

The move comes after concerns regarding the privacy and cybersecurity of the app continue to grow. 

In early March, Treasury Board President Mona Fortier announced in a statement that the ban would take effect immediately, as the app presents a concerning risk. 

Swift Current Skating Club 'SING' their way to 2023 Ice Show

The Swift Current Skating Club is making their grand return to the ice with the 2023 Ice Show. 

Attendees will have the opportunity to witness axel jumps, lutz jumps, and more after a long, three-year hiatus. 

Stephanie Steinley, treasurer for the Swift Current Skating Club, said despite not being able to put on a show for several years, the skaters haven’t stopped developing their skills. 

Longtime show returns with unique new element

The Swift Current Agricultural and Exhibition Association’s Step into Spring Tradeshow will be taking over the Stockade this weekend, featuring a brand-new twist. 

Events Coordinator for the Ag & Ex, Megan Muri, explained that for the show’s 41st year in the city, a Sip and Shop will be added to the annual event. 

“On Friday, the entire show is 19 plus,” she elaborated. “We're calling it the Sip and Shop. You can have your sample, or your beverage, and walk through the trade show and look at all the other vendors.  

Former Swift Current resident and convicted killer accused of killing another woman

A former Swift Current resident and a convicted killer is facing charges once again, for the murder of another woman. 

The Calgary Police Service have charged 48-year-old Christopher Ward Dunlop with second-degree murder and causing an indignity to a body in the death of Calgary resident, Judy Maerz. 

The remains of Maerz were found burned on February 16, in Deerfoot Athletic Park in Calgary.

Community Recreation Coordinator for the City of Swift Current, Krista Caswell, explained that it is a fantastic resource for members of the community to find the best fit for them. 

Second guilty plea follows Swift Current fire

A second Swift Current individual facing arson charges has pled guilty to a lesser charge in Swift Current provincial court. 

27-year-old Austin Hill pled guilty to one count of accessory after the fact in relation to arson, stemming back from a fire at Winks Convenience Store, Marty's Auto Detailing, and U-Haul trailer rentals back in November.

Saskatchewan residents rely heavily on the devices heating their homes throughout the winter months. 

Owner/Manager at Len’s Plumbing and Heating in Swift Current, Tom Westbury, explained that maintenance is essential in keeping furnaces running smoothly. 

He added that the most common issue with furnaces is residents failing to replace or clean their furnace filters. Filters should be cleaned or changed quarterly.
