Southwest couple gets grounded for the holidays

Leaving the province is proving to be a challenge with grounded flights in Regina and Saskatoon. 

Last week, Sunwing announced that due to extenuating circumstances, flights from Saskatoon and Regina airports would be suspended until February 3. 

The suspended flights created a scene of chaos and unanswered questions for those that found themselves at Regina airport on December 27, according to one southwest resident. 

Broncos honour lost players 36 years after devastating bus crash

It has been 36 years since the tragic bus crash that took the lives of four young Broncos.

The devastating bus crash will never be forgotten, something that the Swift Current Broncos have helped to ensure, with their annual four Broncos memorial game. 

Broadcast and Community Relations Manager for the Broncos, Craig Beauchemin, said that each year, it is a very important game in their schedule. 

Assaults and threats with weapons trigger heavy police presence in Swift Current

On December 28, Swift Current RCMP received a report of an assault at an apartment on Robert Street East in Swift Current at approximately 11:45 p.m. 

After investigating, RCMP determined that an adult male assaulted an adult female before she was able to leave the building. 

Power disruption in downtown Swift Current

Downtown Swift Current is currently experiencing intermittent power interruptions.

The power issues are affecting the west side of Central Avenue North from the zero to 300 block as well as the east side of 1st Avenue Northwest from the zero to 300 block.

City Light and Power crew is currently working on a resolution, with a current estimation of three hours.

The issues initially began last night with power interruptions and an outage in the downtown business area.

Ice storm causes major traffic problems on Sask highways

Freezing rain on Tuesday caused chaos on Saskatchewan highways for much of Tuesday and Wednesday with many highways in the province still not recommended for travel. 

The Saskatchewan RCMP stated that in less than 24 hours, their Operational Communication Centre received 59 reports of motor vehicle collisions and 37 non collision reports related to weather, such as traffic hazards and vehicles in the ditch. 

No deliveries in Swift Current

Due to unsafe and undesirable weather and snow, Canada Post has issued a red delivery service alert for Swift Current.

Effective immediately, the alert means that deliveries for the remainder of the day are being suspended and Canada Post will not be sending delivery agents out or recalling them.

The remainder of Saskatchewan had been issued a yellow alert as a result of the poor conditions.

Yellow alerts signal that delivery drivers will be doing their best to fulfill deliveries, however, there may be delays.
