Swift Current celebrates completion of Active Pathways Project

Celebrations were in store last Friday morning when the City of Swift Current marked the completion of the over $5.9 million multi-use pathways and sidewalks project. 

The project, which was approved by City Council in May of 2021, was partially funded by the provincial and federal governments. 

Swift Current MLA, Everett Hindley, stated that the paths are a great asset to the community. 

Gas prices on the decline

Residents may soon be seeing rather sizeable discrepancies in gas prices around southwest Saskatchewan. 

The cost of fuel in Saskatchewan has been slowly declining over the last month, after previously jumping to record prices. 

In December, gas prices in the province were sitting at 1.30/L before skyrocketing to 2.03/L in mid-June.

CAIP is a tax-free payment designed to offset the cost of the federal pollution pricing. 

The payment is a basic amount, as well as a supplement for residents of small and rural communities. It is available to residents of Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario.

She is an 11 year old beautiful girl who has been at the shelter for over 55 days. This girl is looking for a home where she can spend her final years being loved and doted on.

Tansi is a very easy going girl and not much phases her, because of this, we feel Tansi would be great in a home with cats, kids, or just about anything!

Swift Current Legion receives substantial grant

Renovations are in store for the Swift Current Legion after receiving a grant from the Saskatchewan Veterans Service Club Support Program. 

In the window for the first intake period of the year, the Swift Current Legion branch 56’s application for a little over $14,000 was granted to the local organization. 

Vice President for the Swift Current Legion and building co-chair, Rodger Ruf, stated that the funding is a great asset in keeping the legion running smoothly.

Thunder and lightning echoed through the prairies last Friday night, leaving a southwest Saskatchewan farmer and his family to discover a devastating scene on Sunday morning. 

The Briere family is now facing a tremendous loss, both financially and emotionally, after lightning struck their pasture, leaving 28 cattle deceased. 

RCMP make significant seizure near Maple Creek

Last Wednesday, officers from Saskatchewan RCMP’s Roving Traffic Unit (RTU) observed an eastbound pickup truck with an obstructed license plate while conducting patrols on Highway #1 around 1 p.m., west of Maple Creek.  

Upon stopping the truck and further investigation, police searched the vehicle. 

As a result, officers located and seized 954 grams of methamphetamine, 337 grams of cocaine, a small amount of cannabis, and a sum of cash. 

Hodgeville celebrates centennial

It was a jam-packed weekend of celebration in rural Saskatchewan, as the village of Hodgeville celebrated its 100th anniversary. 

The weekend kicked off with a parade at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a SloPitch tournament, a golf tournament, museum tours, and live music. 

One of the organizers for the event, Faye Rister, said that the event was a considerable success for the community.
