RCMP make significant seizure near Maple Creek

Last Wednesday, officers from Saskatchewan RCMP’s Roving Traffic Unit (RTU) observed an eastbound pickup truck with an obstructed license plate while conducting patrols on Highway #1 around 1 p.m., west of Maple Creek.  

Upon stopping the truck and further investigation, police searched the vehicle. 

As a result, officers located and seized 954 grams of methamphetamine, 337 grams of cocaine, a small amount of cannabis and a sum of cash.

Power outage in Swift Current

UPDATE:

Power was restored to the downtown area around 4:30 p.m.

There is currently a power outage on the north side of Swift Current.

Residents have reported that the outage began around 4:00 p.m.

Two step to the tunes this weekend

Swift Current will once again get the luxury of live performances during Frontier Days 2022 as multiple remarkably talented artists are set to take the stage at the grandstands. 

The series of performances will kick off tonight when the brother and sister duo, The Reklaws, takes to the stage. 

Chris Martens, with the Swift Current Ag and Ex, said that he is looking forward to the jam-packed entertainment in store for this year. 

Return of the Riverhurst Ferry

After a dry start put a halt on the beginning of the season, the Ministry of Highways was finally able to open the Riverhurst Ferry last week. 

The Ferry, that has been beached for the start of the season, was able to return to the South Saskatchewan River due to the continuous water level increase over the last week. 

'They're all back to normal again,' parades make triumphant return

For the first time in two years, the city of Swift Current will get to experience the flashing lights and lavish floats of the Canada Day Parade. 

Chris Martens, from the Swift Current Ag & Ex board, said that the excitement in the community for the return to normalcy is infectious. 

I mean everyone loves the parades,” he stated. “People, they just get excited for it, and they're all back to normal again.” 

Cruise and Walk for a Cure kicked off this weekend

Engines roared through Swift Current over the weekend when the second annual Cruise and Walk for a Cure took off on Saturday afternoon. 

The fundraiser is to raise awareness for type 1 diabetes and raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). 

There were 14 individuals that participated in the walk, 40 individuals that took part in the cruise, and a total of 27 bikes.
