Kitchen fire causes significant damage to West End home
A West End home suffered significant damage following a fire Monday evening.
The blaze broke out just before 9 p.m. in a house in the 700 block of Valour Road.
Flames and smoke were shooting out of the home when crews arrived.
Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control within half an hour.
Everyone was able to get out of the home safely before crews arrived.
Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental and related to cooking.
Friends ask for prayer after sudden death of University of Manitoba student and basketball star
A young basketball star from Uganda who came to Canada to pursue his dreams both on and off the court has died.
Michael Makumbi, 22, attended the University of Manitoba as an international student. He was also part of the Legacy Preparatory Basketball Academy and Segue, a faith-based student club at the UM.
The young athlete died suddenly during the Easter weekend, which friends and family are attributing to a blood clot.

Although he does not want to be labelled as a faith-based comedian, Bargatze says that he is trying to create shows that are safe for the entire family.

A ministry retreat centre, located just outside of Winnipeg's city limits, has announced they're selling the property in hopes that someone new may fill the role.
"Women Refreshed at the Well was never our dream," says Joy Klassen. "It was a call. I heard God say this is what I needed to do. That was back in 2000. We officially opened in 2013."

Tréchelle Bunn has had a whirlwind month.
She wrapped up her two-year tenure as one of the Southern Chiefs' Organization youth chiefs, finished her second year of law school at the University of Manitoba and received an Indspire award for her work in Indigenous communities at a ceremony in Vancouver.
Then an election held the day Bunn returned to Manitoba from B.C. put the young woman in the history books.
Up to 20 cm of snow expected in parts of Manitoba as spring storm hits Prairies
Just when it seemed spring had arrived, winter has once again tightened its grip on the Prairies.
A spring storm will make its way through Saskatchewan and western Manitoba on Tuesday, bringing 10 to 20 centimetres of snow with it.
A snowfall warning has been issued for parts of western Manitoba, including Dauphin, Roblin, Neepawa and Russell.
Wet snow will begin falling Tuesday morning for parts of eastern Saskatchewan and western Manitoba. It will intensify throughout the day and continue through Tuesday evening before tapering off Wednesday morning.
