Paul found himself between a rock and a hard place. He wanted to be in heaven but needed to be on earth. In a temporal sort of way, I share the same frustration every year on Super Bowl Sunday. "But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and watch the Super Bowl...yet to remain in the pulpit is more necessary for your sake" (Philippians 1:23-24, Swindoll paraphrase).
WFPS extinguish large grass fire in Weston area
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was kept busy Wednesday battling a grass fire in the Weston area.
The fire broke out in a field on Logan Avenue just west of McPhillips Street at around 11:23 a.m.
By the time crews arrived at the scene, the fire was covering an area the size of half a football field.
WFPS crews used specialized wildland firefighting equipment to battle the large fire.
It took just under an hour to get it under control.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
'It's all going to be gone': Florida-based Canadian artist braces for Milton damage
A Toronto artist based in Florida says he's anxiously waiting to ensure the safety of his friends in the state and assess the potentially catastrophic damage to his property as Hurricane Milton barrels towards his community just outside Sarasota.
He's just one of many Canadians who own homes in the state. Like him, many have fled because of this hurricane or its predecessor Helene, which unleashed devastation across several southern states just a few weeks ago.
48-year-old motorcyclist dead following serious crash west of Brandon
A 48-year-old man from Brandon is dead following a collision Tuesday evening about 26 kilometres west of Brandon.
Emergency crews were called to Highway 250, approximately 10 kilometres north of Highway 1 at around 5:15 p.m. yesterday where they found a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 48-year-old man from Brandon was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 37-year-old female driver and lone occupant of the SUV, from Souris suffered non-life threatening injuries. She was transported to hospital and has since been released.
Firefighters rescue dog from blaze Tuesday evening
A pair of fires kept Winnipeg fire crews busy Tuesday evening.
The first fire broke out around 6:40 p.m. in a six-storey apartment complex in the 0 to 100 block of Keewatin Street.
Smoke was coming from the building when crews arrived. The fire was located in the elevator mechanical room. Crews launched an offensive attack, and the fire was under control shortly after 7 p.m.
Some residents were temporarily evacuated from their suites, while others sheltered in place. No injuries were reported.

Peter Giesbrecht, 91, of Winnipeg formerly of Gretna, passed away Wednesday, October 2nd at Winnipeg. He is survived by his loving wife Anne of 71 years; son Brian (Almuth) and children Heather and Joel; son Rod (Viola) and children Amanda and Jessica; daughter Sharon (Daryll) and children Nathan, Jillian, and Carlie. He is further survived by fourteen great-grandchildren and two sisters.

A private celebration of life for Darren Keith Orchyk will take place.

The funeral service for Henriette “Hattie” Wieler will be held Sunday, October 20th at 2pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach with burial prior to the service at Grunthal Cemetery.
A come and go viewing will be held Saturday, October 19th from 7 to 8pm.

Petra's music will be front and centre in a new faith-based film set to hit theatres next year.
The legendary Christian rock band has teamed up with Intrigue Films to bring their first-ever feature film, Beyond Belief, to life.
The film, set in the 1980s, stars singer Carson Lueders and features some of Petra's greatest hits.
