A 28-year-old woman is in custody after assaulting an officer. 

On Sunday at around 3 a.m., officers were called to the 100 block of Garry Street for the report of a crash involving a parked vehicle. 

When they arrived, they found a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze on its roof. Police say the vehicle had collided with a parked 2022 Audi A5, causing it to roll over. Both vehicles sustained significant damage. 

The 28-year-old driver and her 18-year-old male passenger were both checked by paramedics but did not suffer serious injuries. 

The city of Winnipeg has officially lifted the fire ban after May long weekend's rainfall. 

On May 5, Winnipeg issued a fire ban because of dry conditions that contributed to many wildfires, including in Winnipeg's areas. 

Residents of the city can now have open fires, backyard fire pits, shoot off fireworks, light fires in pits in City parks, and the use of solid fuel-burning appliances.

Statistics Canada is set to release inflation data for April today.

Market data shows economists on average expect the annual rate of inflation cooled to 1.6 per cent last month, from 2.3 per cent in March.

The Liberal government eliminated the consumer carbon price at the start of April, offering motorists some relief at the pump.

Last month also marked the first full month of tariffs between Canada and the United States, though both sides have offered some exemptions in the trade dispute.

Canada Post says it has received strike notices from the union representing some 55,000 postal workers, with operations poised to shut down by the end of the week.

The Crown corporation says the union informed it that employees plan to hit the picket line starting Friday morning at midnight.

A work stoppage would affect millions of residents and businesses who typically receive more than two billion letters and roughly 300 million parcels a year via the service.

Helena Wiebe nee Hiebert, 97, of Winkler passed away Friday, May 16th at Salem Home. She is survived by 4 daughters, 3 sons and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Bernard. 
The funeral service for Helena Wiebe nee Hiebert will be held Wednesday, May 21st at 2pm at Zion Mennonite Church Schanzenfeld with burial at the church cemetery. 
Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler Tuesday, May 20th from 1 to 6pm and at the church prior to the service. 

An evacuation order for the Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet in eastern Manitoba has been partially lifted as officials say crews continue to make good progress battling a wildfire that forced close to 1,000 people from their homes.

A statement from Lac du Bonnet Emergency Management posted to Facebook on Sunday afternoon says the province's Wildfire Service has recommended reopening the southern section of the evacuated Wendigo region.

The post says people who live south of PR 313 between Urban Road and Belluk Road can now return to their homes.
