Two missionaries with strong ties to southern Manitoba are facing long jail sentences after being convicted of sex crimes involving children in the Dominican Republic (DR)

Translation work doesn’t always yield immediate returns. However, Spoken Worldwide recently heard some of their oral Bible stories going viral in a small café in Ethiopia.

Background: the Borana

For about three and a half years, a team in Ethiopia has been translating Scripture and equipping pastors for the previously unreached group of the Borana. This sub-group of the Oromo people is a remote tribe historically unreceptive to the Gospel.

Several southern Manitoba communities have welcomed Afghan refugees in recent weeks and months. 

Emery Plett is the Executive Director of the Evangelical Mennonite Conference (EMC), which has its head office in Steinbach. Plett says EMC is partnering with several organizations overseas, but primarily, they are working with the Canadian government to bring Afghan Christian refugees into our country.

The office of The General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada was a recent victim of a malicious cyber-attack. 

On Nov. 25, Archbishop Linda Nicholls, primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, announced they were targeted by cyber attackers who stole money from their office. 

Nicholls says hackers, possibly from abroad, executed a targeted attack on an employee's email account using information available online.

Church leaders were able to quickly detect the attack after noticing an unauthorized withdrawal from the General Synod’s bank account.

A pastor and his wife are putting their faith in Jesus after both being diagnosed with deadly cancers. 

This is not their first experience with cancer. Back in 2012, just two weeks after getting engaged, Cory Schibler, pastor at Beacon Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas, was diagnosed with follicular non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

"It's a slow-growing cancer that we found only by divine intervention," said Schibler. "The day we got engaged, we had a car accident, and in the course of receiving treatment in the emergency room, the doctors found what they thought was cancer."

A former Victoria's Secret model who gave up her career to follow Jesus has been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. 

About a week ago, Nicole Weider took to social media to ask for prayer after discovering a large lump under her left breast. 

"I thought it would be nothing, maybe just a cyst or a piece of fatty tissue under my armpit," said Weider. "The doctor felt it and looked at it and told me it was serious enough to get a CT scan and have images determined by a radiologist."
