A call for prayer on Ukraine’s Independence Day

The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) and the European Evangelical Alliance (EEA) call on churches and believers to set aside some time on Wednesday, August 24 – Ukraine’s Independence Day – to pray for an end to the war in Ukraine.

“On this day of independence, we want to declare our dependence on God, the One who can bring true peace to the hearts of each individual person, each family and even entire peoples”.

Quebec Cardinal Marc Ouellet denies sex assault allegations, says he is being defamed

A prominent Quebec cardinal is denying allegations he sexually assaulted a woman and says he will participate in any civil legal action against him in order to clear his name, the Vatican's official news portal said Friday.

Cardinal Marc Ouellet, who was once considered a front-runner to become pope, is quoted in Vatican News saying he has "learned of the false accusations made against me … I firmly deny having made any inappropriate gestures toward her."

Christian novelist, theologian and preacher dead at 96

Thousands of people impacted by the writing of Frederick Buechner are remembering his legacy as they mourn his death.

On Monday, August 15, Frederick Buechner died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 96, according to his family.

Buechner was born under the name Carl Frederick Buechner on July 11, 1926, in New York City. He studied at Princeton University, but World War II started and he struggled to complete his bachelor's degree in English in 1948. Buechner published his first novel, A Long Day's Dying, in 1950.
