Burkina Faso: One year post-coup, violence forcing schools to close

It’s been almost one year since the latest coup in Burkina Faso overthrew Interim President Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba on September 30, 2022. Violence in the country has escalated over the last year with Islamist groups, state militias, and security forces attacking each other and civilians. This has led to the closure of roughly one-quarter of the nation’s schools.

Christian artist Anne Wilson received a special surprise last week. 

Her team at Capitol Christian Music threw her a surprise party to celebrate that her single 'My Jesus' is now RIAA-certified Platinum.

"What a moment for the Lord, my sweet brother, Jacob, my family, the writers and producers, and ALL who have walked this unexpected adventure," said Anne on social media.

Chart-topping faith: MercyMe sets new Billboard record

MercyMe has hit an unprecedented milestone in the world of Christian music with the band's latest single, "To Not Worship You."

The band already held the record for the most No. 1s on Billboard’s Christian Airplay and Christian AC Airplay charts. Now, the new single has hit No. 1, putting them at 19 and 20 No. 1s on the respective charts.

The song is an interesting take on a worship song.

People group in Philippines celebrates complete Bible in their language

Over 66 years ago, a Wycliffe missionary began translation of God’s Word in the northern Philippines. This year, the Isnag community celebrated the completed translation in their own language.

Stephanie de Oliveira, Wycliffe USA Director of Church Relations, attended the Bible dedication along with American pastors. After the dedication ceremony, 34 Isnag believers were baptized.

Since 2020, blasphemy laws around the world up 13%

A new report says more and more countries are adopting blasphemy laws and damaging international human rights.

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) updated its Blasphemy Legislation Factsheet last week. It shows 95 countries now impose fines, imprisonment, or even the death sentence to punish religious blasphemy – up from 84 in 2020. That’s a 13% increase in three years.

Bruce Allen with FMI says their ministry often sees how blasphemy laws are used to promote state-sanctioned targeting of minority Christians.
