Newcomers experience a Canadian Thanksgiving meal

It was a holiday meal with all the trimmings last night at the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Center's thanksgiving dinner. 

The Executive Director of the Welcome Center Icasiana de Gala provides details on the annual cultural event. 

This is our thanksgiving dinner, we do this annually I believe since 2013. So this is our 9th year. We started with one turkey and now we have eleven turkeys I think and ham and a lot of additional things there. We're so glad that were able to do this again. 

Provinces continue partnership to fight mountain pine beetle

The provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta continue to collaborate in the fight against the mountain pine beetle. 

Since 2011 the provinces have worked together as Dr. Rory McIntosh, Forest insect and disease expert for forest services with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment explains. 

Since 2011 we've worked with the province of Alberta to slow the spread east and the spread of beetles in Alberta. We feel the best approach is to prevent the beetle from reaching Saskatchewan rather than try to manage it in a northern forest.

Hydrant flushing to occur in Shaunavon this week

Residents of Shaunavon should be prepared for hydrant flushing to be taking place tomorrow and Wednesday. 

A slight discoloration of the water may occur however running a tap or fixture and allowing water to run should fix this issue. 

It is recommended to avoid or reduce the use of hot water during this time if possible and residents should not wash clothes during this time period. 

Rider pride will shine at Stewart Valley block party and fundraiser

Rider pride will be strong in Stewart Valley tomorrow night when they host their Rider Block Party.

After the village suffered the devastating loss of their school and community centre back in August they are using this celebration as a way to look forward and fundraise combining the block party with their community fire fundraising event. 

One of the organizers of the event Jennie Moen provides details on some special guests and events taking place.

Shaunavon promotes school zone safety with installation of new crosswalk signs

The town of Shaunavon is doing its part to promote school zone safety by installing three new flashing pedestrian crosswalk signs at the town schools. 

Regional By-Law Enforcement officer for the town, Bonnie Lingenfelter provides details on how the project came to be. 

"We had conducted the CAA School Safety Assessment a little while ago. It identified many risky behaviors and one of which was pedestrian safety. So from the numbers, we got from the school zone we knew we had to start promoting further safety."

Saskatchewan highlights distracted driving awareness week

The issue of distracted driving is in the spotlight from September 18th to 24th as this week has been proclaimed distracted driving awareness week within the province. 

Within a press release from SGI, it is stated that the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) throughout the week will be delivering a number of its "Drop It And Drive" distracted driving and distractions in the workplace presentations to the workplace, law enforcement, and policymakers as well as high school and university students in the province. 

Clearwater Drive-In provides 34th year of summer entertainment

It was lights, cameras, and curtains closed this past weekend on a successful 34th season for the Clearwater Drive-In Theatre. 

Denise Kelk and her husband Ken purchased the venue back in 1988 and she provides some insight into this past summer's biggest box office hit. 

"Well, the biggest one was Top Gun: Maverick. We brought that back for an encore performance for a couple of nights, and everybody who came out enjoyed it." 

Kelk adds that overall it was a great season with lots of great movies to choose from and they had a good turnout this year. 

Transportation Safety Board investigating plane crash near Shaunavon

At approximately 10:00 am on Sunday a plane crash occurred roughly 5 miles south of Shaunavon. 

Shaunavon fire and rescue along with RCMP and Shaunavon EMS attended the scene. 

Upon arrival, responders found two deceased individuals.

The Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating.

Saskatchewan RCMP release statement regarding James Smith Cree Nation

A Commanding Officer of the Saskatchewan RCMP released a statement this morning regarding the ongoing investigation on James Smith Cree Nation and in Weldon Saskatchewan. 

In the press release, Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore states that they did not know and still do not know the cause of death for Myles Sanderson and says that to speculate would be irresponsible and undermine the independent investigation being conducted by Saskatoon Police Service and the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team.
