The Best Buddies program at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School is putting out a call for some festive donations to assist with an upcoming event. 

Tara Christiansen a co-advisor with the Best Buddies program provides details on the foundation of the program.

"The overall mission of Best Buddies is to create opportunities for one-on-one friendship and relationships for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities."

One local school recently provided their students with extra incentives through a unique Terry Fox fundraiser.

The Bribe Your Teacher fundraiser saw students heavily invested as an Intervention teacher at the school Michelle Vavra explains.

"So basically it's a fundraising activity where the students in each class, collaborate to raise money to bribe their teacher for a variety of activities. Their teacher leads the class in the discussion of the kinds of activities students might want and how much it will cost for them to get that."

Nominations were narrowed down to the top three in 9 award categories at the Swift Current Business Excellence (SCBEX) Awards finalists reveal event held last night at Great Plains College. 

CEO of the Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce, Karla Wiens says selection was difficult this year due to numerous nominations. 

"This year we received over 100 nominations. We had 76 individual nominees this year in 11 different award categories."

While the Lyric Theatre remains closed during renovations, the spirit of the Lyric was alive at Market Square yesterday with the theatres first fundraiser "Shades of Chautauqua."

Georgia Graham, President of the Lyric board provides details on the day's events. 

"A collaboration of music, spoken word, youth performances, theatre all of it in one space. So, we had performances from Write Out Loud, our Youth Talent Night, our Open Stage and our theatre troupe just for mini performances here at Market Square."

Friday night saw bidders bidding high at our Million Dollar Auction. 

Taking place at Full Line Ag on Friday evening, all the lucky recipients of Full Line Ag Fun Bucks were on hand to splash their cash and see what they could bid their way to win. 

A total of 36 items were auctioned off, all of which were received from our generous sponsors who came on board for our Southwest Explorer promotion over the summer. 

Over the past few months our Southwest Explorer, Alex Kozroski has been busy visiting some of the beautiful locations here in the southwest as well as attending many local events at which he was distributing some valuable Full Line Ag Fun Bucks. We would like to thank all of the wonderful sponsors who came on board to help make this happen and for the items they have all provided for the auction. 

The time has come to put those fun bucks to use at our Million Dollar Auction taking place this Friday, September 15th at Full Line Ag.

Canadian country superstar Aaron Goodvin will be Taking it to The Streets of Swift Current as he takes to the grandstand stage this Saturday night along with the Johner Brothers and Johner Boys. 

It will be an epic night for Goodvin to take the stage with these artists whom he says he grew up listening to. 

Goodvin details what fans can expect from his upcoming performance.

Between Us bridges art and nature together as Sandee Moore Curator of the exhibit explains.

Well Between Us certainly is unique. It contains artwork that is made by artists from across Saskatchewan in collaboration with honey bees.
