Ring those phones for the 47th time to help those in need

Saskatchewan residents will be getting ready to ring those phones as Telemiracle 47 takes place this weekend February 25th-26th in Saskatoon at Prairieland Park and airs on CTV.

Committee Chair for this year's Telemiracle, Scott Lamb provides details on how the funds raised help those in need. 

"The money raised goes right back here in the province to the people that need it. We assist with things like travel to medical appointments. Sometimes we get sick and need to go to special places to get special treatment and that's what the Telemiracle Foundation is here to do."

Local library offering sessions to take the taxing work out of tax season

Everyone's favorite season is just around the corner. No, it's not summer, it's tax season. 

The Swift Current branch library will be offering a number of tax-related sessions to help prepare locals for the daunting task as Branch Manager, Conner Kurtz details.

"On February 22nd, we have a benefits and credits webcast with the CRA outreach team and that is a very valuable one that we are hoping people will attend."

Coolest fundraiser returns with Coldest Night of the Year

Put on your toques and winter gear for the third annual Coldest Night of The Year event put on by The Center in Swift Current taking place this Saturday.

 

This is a national event that different non-profits in cities around the country take on to support the hungry, the homeless and the hurting in their communities.

Executive Director of The Center, Nathan Wiebe details the importance of this annual event.

Teacher and staff appreciation week allows for recognition and awareness.

Those that mold the minds of future generations are being recognized this week as part of teacher and staff appreciation week. 

President of the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation Samantha Becotte explains that this year's theme is Champions of Learning. 

Becotte reflects on the attitudes of educators since returning to in-person teaching following the hiatus during the pandemic.

A laundry load of help for the Swift Current SPCA

It appears as though some local businesses are still in the giving spirit even after the holidays as the Swift Current SPCA received some welcomed help recently. 

Amy Dixon, Operations Manager for the SPCA provides details. 

"Len's Plumbing & Heating did everything for the plumbing that we needed for the new machines. We were only set up for one washer, and one dryer but with Voth's help we did get a second set. So, we now have two sets of stackable washers and dryers which is going to come in very handy with the amount of laundry we have to do."

SGI traffic spotlight results show impaired driving still a concern

Over the past couple of months, SGI has been focusing its traffic spotlight on impaired driving. 

Manager of Media Relations for SGI, Tyler McMurchy says this serves as a reminder that impaired driving enforcement happens year-round. 

McMurchy provides the results for the November spotlight.

"In November there were 342 impaired driving offenses. When we break that down it breaks down to 211 drivers charged with Criminal Code impaired driving offenses and another 131 were issued administrative suspensions for lower levels of impairment."
