The South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League will operate with 10 teams when season 73 begins next month. The Morden Bombers, Winkler Royals, Carman Beavers, Notre Dame Hawks, Portage Islanders, Warren Mercs, Red River Wild, Ile des Chenes Northstars, Springfield Winterhawks and the two-time defending champion Ste. Anne Aces confirmed their status for the 2024-25 season at the league's fall meeting Tuesday night in Carman. The Winterhawks application to join the league was accepted in late May.
Cougars defeat Goldeyes to win championship
The Winnipeg Goldeyes’ season came to an end Tuesday night, as the Kane County Cougars (7-0) completed the series sweep, winning 5-3 and capturing the Miles Wolff Cup as champions of the American Association.
Gate Capital Campaign is off to a strong start
Four Provincial grower organizations have announced $13.4 million in funding for the newly launched Gate Capital Campaign.
Led by Cereals Canada, the $102 million Global Agriculture Technology Exchange project (otherwise known as Gate) will be built in downtown Winnipeg.
The new facility will provide office space for Cereals Canada as well as new state-of-the-art technical areas such as analytical labs, pilot processing and research facilities.

Traffic stops yield results for Morden Police
A driver was suspended and fined after blowing a Warning on a roadside screening test.
It all started when officers noticed an open case of beer inside the vehicle during a traffic stop. That's when the request for a roadside test was made.
In the end, the driver was issued a 72-hour driving suspension and a 3-day impoundment of the vehicle along with a $400 fine.

Also, while on general patrol earlier that week, officers pulled over a man known to be on conditions.
50km/h speed zone extended northward on Morden's Mountain Street
Morden Mayor Nancy Penner is sharing with city residents the 50 km/h speed reduction zone as you enter the city on P-R 4-32 is now further north than previously with the opening of Ecole Discovery Trails. She made the comment for In the Mayor's Chair which you can listen to, below.
Morden YFC receives much needed grant from Canada Post Foundation to finish a big project
Thanks to a Charity for Youth and Children Initiatives Grant from Canada Post Foundation (CPF), the Morden Youth for Christ (YFC) will now be able to complete the basketball court portion of their backyard project fundraiser.
Kris Hansen Canada Post Local Area Manager for Southeastern Manitoba said YFC Morden was one of three organizations in his region to receive a grant.
Joint School Supply Drive to Benefit Western and Garden Valley School Divisions
In a collaborative effort to support students in need, the Western School Division and Garden Valley School Division are joining forces for a significant back-to-school supply drive. This event, held in partnership with Decor Cabinets, will take place at Walmart in Winkler on September 18th and 19th from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with Eagle 93.5FM, Country88 and CFAM Radio 950 broadcasting on location both days.

Maroons take leave of absence from SEMHL ending team’s 72-year run
The Altona Maroons, a charter member of the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League, will not put a team on the ice for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
It became official Tuesday night at the league’s fall meeting in Carman.
SEMHL commissioner Tom Vatrt informed the league executive and the 10 other teams that due to a lack of players, the Maroons would not be able to compete in season 73.
The team will take a one-year leave of absence, ending a streak of 72 years of senior hockey in Altona.
