Pembina Valley firefighters returning to Northern Manitoba wildfire fight

After receiving another request from the Office of the Fire Commissioner, twelve firefighters from several departments in the region left Sunday to assist in ongoing wildfire fighting efforts in Northern Manitoba.

Five members from Winkler Fire Department are joining seven others from Morden, St. Jean, Morris and Altona as part of a Pembina Triangle Mutual aid district task force team headed to Thompson. According to information shared on the department's respective social media pages, the group will be deployed to wildfires in both the Thompson and Lynn Lake areas.

"Things can turn really tragic": Drivers encouraged to watch out for motorcyclists

Motorists of all kinds are being urged to stay cautious following a spike in collisions this week. This includes staying on the lookout for motorcyclists.

Tara Seel, media and public relations lead with Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI), says warmer weather brings more two-wheeled drivers out on the roads.

"(They) are the most vulnerable road users in our province. We want all motorcycle drivers as well as motor vehicle drivers to be aware of how quickly things can turn really tragic," she says.

The grade 11 student at Morden Collegiate Institute was one of three rural youth council members invited to the Manitoba Legislature to meet the Premier and get a better understanding of government and ask questions. She says it was an honour to get the invite for the visit, which included a tour of the Legislature and the chance to sit in the Premier's chair!

Online sale in Winkler ends in damaged property

A man has been charged with mischief following a property damage incident on June 17th, after attempting to confront an online seller whose product allegedly stopped working.

According to Winkler Police Chief Ryan Hunt, the homeowner, who was not at the residence at the time, observed the male suspect through his security system and believed the individual was trying to break into his home. He reported the incident to police and began following the suspect after the man left the property.
