Strategic crossing near Altbergthal gets $150K boost from Province

It's news Council members for the Municipality of Rhineland were hoping for. 

The Province is providing a $150,000 grant through its GRO program to help the Municipality address a potential inconvenience that could surface in the future. It involves proactively building up a low-level crossing on Road 6N near Altbergthal. 

Basketball star Hildebrand honoured to be part of Graduating All-Star game

Lilly Hildebrand was selected to be a part of the Graduating A-AAA All-Star game and the dynamic basketball star not only had a great time, but showcased her skills.

"I came from a very sports-inclined family, that loved basketball especially," Hildebrand explains with a smile. "I grew up playing with my older brother, who actually coaches in Winkler and my sister, who also coaches. They taught me everything I know, they encouraged me to get better at the sport and always challenged me."

Nothing but empty boxes: Mordenite loses $7,000 USD to online scam

Recently, an individual in Morden was the victim of a scam that saw him pay an exorbitant amount for empty boxes. 

“An individual ordered some items online from a company that he thought was out of Minnesota and thought was a legitimate company,” says Morden Police Chief Brad Neduzak.  

“He purchased the items for over $7,000 in US funds, and when the packages arrived at the Amazon site, the boxes were empty.” 

Blue Bombers add talent through 2025 draft

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers selected nine players in the 2025 CFL Draft held Tuesday night.

The Club began the night with a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, acquiring National running back Matthew Peterson (Alberta), the second pick in the first round of the Global Draft, and the 39th pick overall (5th round) in the CFL Draft. In exchange, Hamilton received National defensive lineman Kyle Samson, the eighth pick in the first round of the Global Draft, and the 36th overall selection in the CFL Draft (4th round).

Firefighters battle past sunset at Winkler's Quality Inn and Suites

A devastating fire has left hearts broken in the City of Winkler. Fire erupted at the Quality Inn and Suites on Main Street on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a swift response from the Winkler Fire Department and other emergency services.

According to a statement from Schinkel Properties, which owns and operates the hotel, the fire was first reported on the roof. All hotel and restaurant guests, staff, and pets inside at the time were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

Daizee Wiebe, Supportive Housing Coordinator at The Gardens on Tenth in Altona told us how the money from this Soup & Pie fundraiser will be put to work: "With the addition of assisted living suites, our meal program has expanded drastically. We are hoping to purchase new dining room tables and chairs for the apartments so that we can manage more seating for more tenants from the apartments and the manner who utilize our meal services."
