La Nina conditions likely to avoid fall frosts for Canadian prairies

North America is currently in a transitory period in terms of weather systems, with the timing of that transition likely to affect conditions for crops around the prairies.

That'll eventually change into a LaNinna system, which for our southern neighbours means that frosts could creep in early and disrupt harvest.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Natalie Hasell says that people in the Canadian prairies don't need to worry as much.

Habitat for Humanity build ahead of schedule

The Habitat for Humanity home being built in Winkler is progressing faster than expected, and it’s thanks to all the trades that have volunteered to help - according to Manager of Chapter Support for Habitat for Humanity Christina Falk.  

“We have had so many trades come forward for this build and help us with a building day here or there and doing lots of the pieces that often take us a longer time to do, so we are just super thankful for that”

Energy finishes top 10 at Nationals

The Central Energy competed at the 2024 Canadian U17 Softball Championship that was held in Calgary from July 31st-August 4th.

The top two teams from Manitoba earned spots in the 24-team tournament.

Central Energy was proud to wear the title of MB1 after earning gold at Softball Manitoba's Provincial Championship in early July and set a goal of finishing in the top 10 in the country - no easy feat!

Pool play ran from Wednesday through Friday.

The Canadian government has updated its travel advisory for the United Kingdom amid a rash of ongoing demonstrations. 

It says visitors should "exercise a high degree of caution" in the country and takes note of demonstrations and violent clashes between protesters and police over the past week. 

The travel advice cautions that even peaceful demonstrations can turn violent at any time and can deteriorate quickly.

Two treated for overdoses in Morden last week

Morden police officers, and paramedics were called to two overdoses in three days at the end of July/beginning of August.
    
In the first case, on July 31st, a woman was brought to healthcare facility for further treatment.
    
Secondly, on August 2nd, a woman was assessed by medics and released. A man, however, was brought to a healthcare facility for further treatment.
