Broncos rally from third period deficit for overtime win over Tigers
The Swift Current Broncos (22-18-0-2) trailed the Medicine Hat Tigers (19-20-5-0) 3-1 entering the third period on Sunday, but scored twice to tie the game before Josh Davies netted the overtime winner, completing the comeback with a 4-3 win.
Swift Current ran into penalty trouble to start Sunday’s game, including a lengthy 1:53 five-on-three for the Tigers, but thanks to some stellar goaltending by Joey Rocha escaped without giving up a goal.
Broncos fall on the road to Pats
The Swift Current Broncos (21-18-0-2) had no shortage of chances Saturday night at the Brandt Centre, but the Regina Pats (22-20-1-1) capitalized on their best opportunities, skating to a 5-2 win.
It was a tough start to the game as Regina took the lead just 1:15 in. A bouncing puck in the Broncos zone ended up on the tape of Tanner Howe between the circles and he lifted a shot over Reid Dyck’s blocker, giving the Pats the early lead.
Broncos force comeback but fall to Tigers in shootout
The Swift Current Broncos (20-17-0-2) clawed back from a 4-2 deficit after two periods on Wednesday night, but couldn’t complete the comeback in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers (17-21-5-1).
It was a tough start to the game for the Broncos with Medicine Hat scoring shorthanded just over four minutes after puck drop. Hunter St. Martin chipped the puck out to neutral ice and Shane Smith was then able to chip it past the last defender, taking off on a breakaway.
Broncos withstand late push in win over Cougars
The Swift Current Broncos (20-17-0-1) held a 4-1 lead into the final minutes of play Saturday night, and withstood a furious push by the Prince George Cougars (17-18-4-0) to hold on for a 4-3 win.
The Broncos came out of the gate with one of their most dominant efforts of the season. Shots read 14-0 Broncos roughly 14 minutes into the game with Swift Current jumping ahead 1-0.
Late-game momentum swing costs Broncos in Calgary
The Swift Current Broncos (19-17-0-1) pulled to within one late in regulation against the Calgary Hitmen (22-12-3-1) Friday night, but Calgary scored shorthanded and on the power play following the goal, handing Swift Current a 6-3 loss.
Much like their game in Lethbridge on Wednesday, Caleb Wyrostok opened the scoring just over a minute into the game.
Turnovers prove costly as Broncos fall in Lethbridge
The Swift Current Broncos (19-16-0-1) saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night, falling 5-3 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes (22-15-0-2) at the Enmax Centre.
Swift Current got off to a great start in the game, scoring just 62 seconds after puck drop. Caleb Wyrostok was skating across the slot and threw a backhand shot toward the net, sneaking it through the five hole of Harrison Meneghin for his 12th of the season. Connor Hvidston and Brady Birnie drew assists.
Rocha's stellar performance backstops Broncos to win over Tigers
The Swift Current Broncos (19-15-0-1) won their seventh game in a row on Tuesday, 3-1 over the Medicine Hat Tigers (14-20-5-1), thanks in large part to a 37-save performance from Joey Rocha.
Swift Current wasted no time Tuesday night, jumping out to a 1-0 lead just 1:31 into the game. Mathew Ward had the puck deep in the Tigers zone before backhanding it across the crease for Josh Filmon who fired it past an outstretched Beckett Langkow. It was Filmon’s 25th goal of the year.
Broncos score five unanswered, win 6-4 over Tigers
The Swift Current Broncos (18-15-0-1) were down 4-1 a little over halfway through the second period Saturday night, but scored five unanswered goals to down the Medicine Hat Tigers (14-19-5-1) 6-4 at Co-op Place.
Caleb Wyrostok, a Medicine Hat native, got the Broncos out to a 1-0 lead late in the first period. Kayden Sadhra-Kang skated into the Tigers zone on a two-on-one and slid it across to Wyrostok who fired home his 10th of the year with 3:35 remaining.
Broncos win fifth straight, down Blades 5-4 in shootout
Swift Current Broncos (17-15-0-1) goaltender Reid Dyck stepped up when it mattered most, stopping two great scoring chances for the Saskatoon Blades (25-6-2-1) in overtime before denying all three shooters to seal a 5-4 win for the Broncos Friday night.
Saskatoon jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the late stages of the first period. After some scrambly play near the Broncos net, the puck ended up behind the goal and was centred by Vaughn Watterodt and Charlie Wright fired it past Dyck.
Filmon's overtime winner lifts Broncos over Tigers
The Swift Current Broncos (16-15-0-1) saw their two-goal lead in the third period disappear, but forced overtime before Josh Filmon scored his second of the night, giving the Broncos a 4-3 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers (13-18-5-1).
Much like the night before, the Broncos opened the scoring halfway through the first period. Connor Hvidston hooked the puck across the neutral zone for Sam McGinley who had speed coming down the left wing.
