It was a very foggy start to Wednesday across the Red River and Pembina Valleys with a Fog Advisory in place until shortly after noon. Near zero visibility, at times, was reported in some locations, but as day broke and the sun rose, a beautiful scene was left for all of us to enjoy.

Hoar frost adorned almost every surface imaginable, with many tree limbs and branches looking nearly coated with the wintery sight.

A Fog Advisory has ended for the Pembina and Red River Valleys.

The fog will continue to lift, but will likely redevelop Wednesday night.

It's been a busy first couple of months for Winkler Mayor Henry Siemens. After October's municipal elections, Siemens said it felt really good to be given a strong mandate by voters. He said that made him feel confident in reaching out to the community, rebuilding relationships, and growing relationships in our region.

A 25-year-old Altona man has been charged with numerous drug-related offences following a bust on New Year’s Eve.

With the help of the Regional Support Tactical Unit, the Altona Police Service executed a narcotics warrant at an apartment suite Saturday on 2nd St. Sw in Altona. The tenant, the 25-year-old, was home at the time and was arrested for trafficking of a controlled substance.

During a search of the suite, police say they discovered a substantial quantity of various drugs.

Conservation officers are continuing enforcement to protect Manitoba’s natural resources through a variety of enforcement activities across the province with a dedicated effort against illegal night lighting, and commercial and sport fishing patrols.

Highlights from provincial hunting enforcement statistics for July 1 to Dec. 16 include:

• conservation officers conducted 131-night patrols designed to stop illegal night hunting activities, 36 of which utilized aircraft. 

The South Central Regional Library (SCRL) has dispatched its own delegation in response to a group of concerned citizens asking member municipal councils to withhold funding to the organization until, what they describe as sexually explicit material, is removed from library shelves. 

SCRL Head Librarian, Cathy Ching, along with SCRL Board representative, Laverne Siemens, spoke in front of the Municipality of Rhineland Council at its regular meeting on Wednesday, two weeks after the citizen group presented there.

The case involving a stolen vehicle remains under investigation by Winkler Police. 

Around 10:30 last Tuesday morning, a male parked his pickup truck near the front door of a business in the 800 block of Main Street.

Planning to only be inside the business for a minute, the male left his vehicle running with the keys in the ignition. When he returned to his truck, it had been stolen.

The Winkler Police Service received a report last week of a possible scam regarding a vehicle for sale.

Altona police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection to a Halloween night robbery at the Domo Gas Mart in town. 

Saturday morning is starting is very much like Friday ended, with poor driving conditions across parts oft he western Red River Valley and Pembina Valley. Environment Canada ended the Blowing Snow Advisories for the region before 5 a.m., but travel conditions remain challenging.
