Steinbach's Driedger shines in first year with Assiniboine Cougars
It was a fantastic first year on the ice for Steinbach's Brooklyn Driedger of the Assiniboine Cougars, who claimed silver at the ACHA Division 2 College Hockey National Championship.
Reflecting on the year, Driedger is thrilled with how things went both on and off the ice. "It was awesome, I had the time of my life," she says beaming. "Playing with the Cougars was a lot of fun, it was a great group of girls and it was a really great experience."
Feel Good Friday goes to La Broquerie

Seller's market sees busy year for house sales in Steinbach
Steinbach has seen more house sales this year than any other area in Manitoba, outside of Winnipeg. That is according to Jeremy Davis with the Winnipeg Regional Real Estate Board.
Davis says in the first quarter of this year, there were 39 MLS (Multiple Listing Service) sales for single-family detached homes in Steinbach. That is up 22 per cent from the first quarter of 2024.
Davis says those 39 sales come from 54 listings. The number of listings in the first quarter this year was down slightly from a year ago.
City of Steinbach optimistic about role in future RCMP negotiations

Collision on Brandt slows traffic
First responders are on the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Brandt Street, between First Street and Elice Avenue.
The intersection remains closed, with only one southbound lane open and traffic moving slowly through the area.
Northbound lanes are unaffected, and crews are working to clear the scene.

Campsite bookings up from last year; St. Malo reservations open Friday
Camping enthusiasts in the southeast are reminded that tomorrow is opening day for campground reservations at St. Malo.
In order to accommodate the high demand for campsites in provincial parks, reservations have opened in stages this week. According to our province, the number of bookings is trending slightly ahead of last year's pace.
Monday was the opening day for all cabins, yurts, and group-use areas. There were 5,295 bookings that day, up one per cent from 5,242 on opening day in 2024.
