Manitoba offers $13 million with more to come for planned grain centre
The Manitoba government is putting up $13 million for a centre aimed at helping grain producers find new international trading partners.
Cereals Canada, a national industry group, announced plans last year for a new $100-million facility in downtown Winnipeg called the Global Agriculture Technology Exchange.
Premier Wab Kinew says the centre will help showcase Manitoba’s grains and drive up global demand for Canadian products.

The Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV) in Steinbach held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, April 9, 2025.
Board President Willie Peters couldn't attend in person, though he participated via phone, with Matt Wieler, Chair of Finance, stepping in to lead the meeting. About 30 people attended the AGM, where they heard updates on the museum’s progress, financial outlook, and exciting plans for the coming year.
Campsite bookings up from last year; St. Malo reservations open Friday
Camping enthusiasts in the southeast are reminded that tomorrow is opening day for campground reservations at St. Malo.
In order to accommodate the high demand for campsites in provincial parks, reservations have opened in stages this week. According to our province, the number of bookings is trending slightly ahead of last year's pace.
Monday was the opening day for all cabins, yurts, and group-use areas. There were 5,295 bookings that day, up one per cent from 5,242 on opening day in 2024.

Increase in dog attacks forces Ritchot to hire animal control officer
The Mayor of Ritchot says due to a recent increase in dog attacks, Council has decided to appoint an animal control officer (ACO).
"The RM of Ritchot has been dealing with a significant influx of domestic animal concerns; dog attacks or dog bites throughout the whole municipality," says Chris Ewen. "And we as Council just decided that it's time to take serious action on this and hire a designated ACO to start not only penalizing but educating people on how severe this can be."
Mental health walk returns to Steinbach to raise awareness
A national walk raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention is coming up, and Steinbach is representing Manitoba.
"It looks funny because (there's) all these big cities, and then Steinbach, Manitoba. We are the Manitoba walk," says Marisol Pulido, a volunteer with the Sashbear Foundation, which is the organization behind the walk.
