As wildfires in northern Manitoba continue to burn and cause many to evacuate, firefighters in other parts of the province are stepping up to provide support.

Summer In The City street closures begin Thursday morning
Road closures will start Thursday morning in downtown Steinbach in anticipation of this weekend's Summer In The City festival.
Randy Reimer is head of Public Works for the City of Steinbach. He says the first closure happens Thursday morning at 7 am along Reimer Avenue from First Street to Elmdale Street. This is to accommodate setup of the midway.
Then on Thursday at 6 pm, Main Street will be closed from Friesen Avenue to Barkman Avenue. Cars must be off the street by 6 pm.
Eastman committee discusses highways, healthcare and emergency response

The Eastman Regional Municipal Committee (ERMC), made up of mayors, reeves and councillors from across southeastern Manitoba, held its latest meeting on Monday at the new Southeast Event Centre in Steinbach. Before the meeting began, delegates were given a tour of the new facility.

A state of emergency remains in effect for the entire province of Manitoba, as the result of wildfires that continue to burn out of control.
According to the Manitoba Wildfire Service (MWS), there are 26 active wildfires across our province. There have been 116 wildfires so far in 2025, which is more than the normal 105 for this time of year.

The funeral service for Elma Thiessen nee Hiebert will be held Saturday, June 14th at 11am at Crossings Funeral Care, Steinbach with burial at Grunthal Cemetery.
Viewing will be at the chapel prior to the service.
