Steinbach man ticketed after collision just north of Altona
A Steinbach man was ticketed due to a two-vehicle collision Monday afternoon just north of Altona.
There were no serious injuries in the collision at the corner of Highway 30 and PR 201.
Pembina Valley RCMP, along with Altona Rhineland Emergency Services and EMS, were dispatched around 1:45 pm.

Hanover approves 6,100 square foot shop in rural residential area
A business owner southeast of Mitchell has been given permission to expand his shop to more than three times the legal size.
Ralph Toews appeared before Hanover Council last week. Toews owns a home-based business called RT Signs, located along Homestead Crescent. According to Hanover's Permit Administrator, Amos Wiebe, Toews obtained planning permissions and permits for this business back in 2005. Wiebe says the business has outgrown its existing shop space, and additional space is required.
Warm weather will wake Manitoba’s mosquitos — and raise disease risk
Once temperatures and moisture levels line up, the province's most infamous summer pest will return in full force.
Dr. Bryan Cassone, a biology professor at Brandon University, says it’s remarkable how resilient mosquitoes are in surviving Manitoba winters.
"They're hardy," says Cassone. "They over-winter as either eggs or really early larvae stages depending on the species, and they're able to survive until conditions become favourable."
Fires continue to burn out of control in cottage country
The Manitoba Wildfire Service (MWS) says there continues to be a significant wildfire threat in eastern Manitoba. It says forest fuels remain dry and that human activity has contributed significantly to Manitoba's current wildfire situation. Residents are asked to adhere to the fire and travel restrictions for their area.
The MWS continues to respond to 17 active wildfires across the province. There has been a total of 93 wildfires so far this year, which is above the average of 75 for this time of year.
Portion of Rosenort's Pleasant Valley Road collapses into river
The R.M. of Morris is advising Rosenort residents to stay away from a portion of Pleasant Valley Road between the dike and River Road South now that a portion of the road has collapsed into the river.
The impacted section of Road 30 NE was first closed on Friday, and the river has continued to wash out the ground underneath the low level crossing. According to a social media post by the Municipality, the section of road is completely impassable and taking an alternative route is required.

Shoppers Drug Mart temporarily evacuated
Just before 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, the Steinbach Fire Department responded to a call from Shoppers Drug Mart in Steinbach.
Fire Chief Kel Toews says there were reports of a strong smell of smoke or fire, prompting the evacuation of both staff and customers.
“When we arrived, we did a search of the building and traced the source to be an electrical panel.”
