Don Doerksen is 'Looking Back' with latest album on Made in Manitoba

 It's time for another Made in Manitoba, and it's all about southern gospel music on this weekend's program ahead of Don Doerksen's album release party May 31st.

Calling the Niverville area home, he grew up on the farm he currently owns and operates with his family. Don and his wife Valerie have four children, and are actively involved in the community and their church. He has been a worship leader for about 30 years, and his love of singing has come through in a variety of ways including quartets, choirs and Bible college ensembles.

Blue Bombers sign quarterback Collaros to a one-year extension

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed quarterback Zach Collaros to a one-year contract extension through the 2026 Canadian Football League season.

Collaros is entering his sixth season with the Blue Bombers and has firmly established himself as one of the greatest pivots in franchise history.

U.S. door may open for canola

Crop would be eligible for biofuel tax credit under recent budget proposals in Congress

U.S. President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” could contain some beautiful news for Canada’s canola growers.

The U.S. House of Representatives’ ways and means committee has released its draft proposals for the U.S. budget reconciliation bill.

The proposals include provisions to amend the controversial 45Z clean fuel production tax credit so that canola oil-based biodiesel and renewable diesel would be eligible for the credit.

Producer groups come together to help fund ag research facilities at U of S

Construction is underway at the University of Saskatchewan that will see critical facility improvements within the College of Agriculture and Bioresources.

Two new facilities are being built - the Harrington Plant Growth Facility and the Soil Science Field Facility - while a portion of the Crop Science Field Lab is being renovated to provide additional workspace for the Crop Development Centre. 

Lac du Bonnet cottager "filled with gratitude" as cabin spared from wildfire

It has been a harrowing two weeks for many with connections to wildfires in Manitoba.

In Lac du Bonnet, where a wildfire continues to burn, residents and cottagers have been living in a state of emotional whiplash.

"It’s just been 10 days of emotional highs and lows," says Ken Heinrichs, who owns a cabin in the area.

"You’re thinking, 'OK, this is our only summer place. It’s not our permanent residence.' Then you hear reports of people passing away, and that really hits home."

Measles exposure site identified at school in Lorette

Two new measles exposure sites have been identified by the province, including in Lorette.

Friday afternoon, the Manitoba Health sent out notification that those at Collège Lorette Collegiate on May 12 between 8:20 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. may have been exposed to the disease.

Those at Prairie Dale School in Schanzenfeld on May 12 between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. may also have been exposed.

Piney forests reduced to ashes; Reeve asked to defend evacuation and security decisions

A resident of Woodridge says the municipality failed them last week as wildfires threatened to destroy their community. The community is still standing today, but Brian Brunelle says residents are confused with how things were handled, going as far as to say that the municipality's actions led to some "totally unacceptable" events. 

Brunelle says the confusion came with the evacuation order. He notes to this day it is still unclear whether it was a mandatory evacuation or a suggestive evacuation. 

Woodhaven subdivision request denied by Steinbach City Council

Steinbach city Council unanimously denied a subdivision request for 236 Woodhaven Avenue Tuesday evening. 

The application was up for first reading. Generally, even if there are concerns, city council will give first reading so that a public hearing is triggered and council can have an opportunity to hear from the neighbouring residents and the developer before they make a decision. 

Hanover and De Salaberry lifting fire bans

The Rural Municipality of Hanover is lifting its fire ban. 

The ban was implemented last week Thursday after a string of very hot and windy days. The municipality has indicated that it will be lifted today at noon.

"Things have improved greatly in the past week," says Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe. "We've received quite a fair bit of rain and conditions are where we can now comfortably lift the fire ban."
