Steinbach Fire Department responds to three fires in four hours
It's been a busy day for the Steinbach Fire Department.
Shortly after 10 a.m., Kelvin Toews, the chief of the department, says crews responded to a possible structure fire at Robinson Supply.
"When we arrived there was smoke coming out of one of the walls and out of the attic space in on of the corners of the building," he says.
La Broquerie residents fined for weekend fires during ban
During an active fire ban this weekend, the La Broquerie Fire Department responded to several blazes, some of which fines are being issued for.
The fire ban in the RM currently does not allow for fires of any kind.
Chief of the department, JC Normandeau, says on Friday around 6 p.m., a civilian was burning a pile of branches and lost control of the flames.
Hudson's Bay Company records give public chance to 'reconnect' with ancestors

The Metis woman quickly recognizes it as the same one her grandmother had years ago.
"This is my family," she said referring to the figures in the picture. "I'm actually shaking a bit."
It's not the first time Lavallee has visited the archives, but it is the first time she's seen that photo among the thousands of historical documents that are housed at the Archives of Manitoba.
City backs partnership to advocate for Southeast Manitoba priorities
The City of Steinbach has joined forces with 10 neighbouring municipalities in Southeast Manitoba as part of a new regional lobbying effort aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare and government services in the Eastman region.
City Council recently approved a resolution to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Eastman Regional Municipal Committee – Southern Sub-Committee, a group created to identify and address shared challenges across southeastern communities.

Emergency crews are currently on scene at Robinson Supply, located just off Highway 52 in Steinbach.
Eastbound traffic is reduced to a single lane just past Industrial Road.

Morris robotics students headed to world championship in Dallas
After an impressive regional win, the Morris School Advanced Robotics Club is preparing to compete on the world stage.
The team recently qualified for the 2025 VEX Robotics World Championship following a strong showing at the Red River Valley Regional VEX Robotics tournament held in January in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. The championship runs from May 6–14 in Dallas, Texas and brings together top student teams from around the globe.
Aces President Lansard speaks on team being voted out of SEMHL
After being asked to leave a portion of an SEMHL league meeting, President of the Ste. Anne Aces, Kevin Lansard, didn't think much of it, he went and grabbed a bite to eat and waited, but when he was called back in, he would be informed his team would no longer be welcomed in the league.
The South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League is now made up of Morden, Notre Dame, Portage la Prairie, Winkler, Warren, Carman, Ile des Chenes, Springfield and Red River.

Rev. Leslie Poulin, 61, of Morris passed away Friday, May 2nd at Morris General Hospital.
She is survived by 3 daughters, 2 sisters, Father Dalton Poulin and their families. She was predeceased by her mother Joan Poulin.
The funeral service for Rev. Leslie Poulin will be held Friday, May 9th at 1pm at Morris Multiplex with burial at a later date in her hometown in Ontario.
