Pet owners, animal enthusiasts and everyone else in the community is invited to join Pet Valu as they celebrate their Steinbach store expansion on Saturday, May 10.
“For the Grand Opening of our addition, we’re going to have a bit of an event,” says longtime store owner Barry Peters. “We’ll have a BBQ with hot dogs, chips and drinks, and it’ll be run by Steinbach & Area Animal Rescue with the help of Popcorn & Binkies Rescue Haven.”

La Broquerie Helping Hands hosting a grand opening ceremony
La Broquerie Helping Hands is inviting the community to experience what it's all about at a grand opening.
"We've been running for over a year, and we've been in our locations since October. But now we're actually being able to officially celebrate with this grand opening ceremony," says Jocelyn Gauthier, a member of the food bank's board.
The ceremony will take place on May 7 at 210 Principale Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will include a free hot dog and drink for attendees.
Construction not cooling off in Ritchot
The Mayor for Ritchot says the municipality is off to a "rocket" of a start when it comes to construction activity.
In the first quarter of 2025, the municipality issued more building permits than during the same period of 2024. By the end of March this year, 29 permits were issued worth a combined $8.7 million. That is up from the same timeframe a year ago when there were 27 permits worth a combined $4.5 million issued.
"I generously predicted that we'd see a stronger building year for 2025, and I nailed it on the head," says Chris Ewen.
Jets pull off miracle comeback in Game 7, win in double OT
The Winnipeg Jets are heading to Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs after pulling off a dramatic 4–3 double-overtime win against the St. Louis Blues in Game 7 Sunday night.
Down 3–1 entering the third period, the Jets mounted an improbable comeback with two goals in the final minutes, including Cole Perfetti’s game-tying marker with just 2.2 seconds left on the clock.
Captain Adam Lowry was the hero in double overtime, deflecting a Neal Pionk shot at 16:10 of the second OT to seal the win and send Canada Life Centre into a frenzy.
In shocking decision, Aces voted out of SEMHL
Ste. Anne Sr. Aces leadership are calling it "a baffling, head scratching and extremely disappointing decision", as after a league meeting Sunday morning, the original 6 SEMHL teams have voted the Aces out of the SEMHL entirely.
The Aces are coming off their third consecutive SEMHL Championship and defeated the Killarney Shamrocks to claim the 2024/25 provincial title.
Details as to exactly why this decision was made remain unclear.
