It takes time, effort, and dedication to get where Reanna Friesen and Connor Brick are today.

The pair from Steinbach Regional Secondary School (SRSS) faced off with hundreds of other students in Skills Manitoba, a provincial competition that challenges students' skills in various trades.

If it feels somewhat different to walk through the doors of Steinbach’s Pharmasave, it might be because so many faces are familiar. Or because the staff’s positive demeanor is a top-down dynamic. Or because a customer-first approach ensures each client is treated like a person, and not a number.

Or, maybe it’s a bit of everything.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) is programming offered in the Hanover School Division (HSD)—and at Steinbach's Southwood Elementary School, it's blossoming.

In a presentation to the HSD Board of Trustees, the school principal, Marge Thiessen, and learning support teacher, Holly Gushulak, showed nearly 40 per cent of Southwood students are engaged in EAL.

They come from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, the pair explain, representing 23 countries of origin and 16 different languages.

The Rural Municipality of Hanover has received a grant that will help support electric vehicles. 

Earlier this month, Environment and Climate Change Minister Mike Moyes announced a $500,000 investment for the installation of 51 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in our province. The money comes through the Climate Action Fund.

16 local businesses went head-to-head in the SteinbachOnline Cup draft, presented by ONE Insurance.

The excitement kicked off with a number draw to determine the selection order. One by one, representatives from each business approached the stage in order of their draw to randomly select a team from the Cup.

Once chosen, they placed their business name on the tournament bracket, setting the stage for some friendly local competition.

It was an evening full of energy, business ideas, and the sound of chirping chicks.

On Thursday night, April 17, the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual Chamber Challenge presentation night, where nine student entrepreneurs took the stage in front of a full house to pitch their small business ideas, and they did not disappoint. 

Niverville Town Council officially approved its 2025 Financial Plan during the April 15 council meeting, following a brief public hearing at which no residents were present or submitted feedback.

The Town’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Eric King, presented the financial highlights of the 2025 budget during the hearing.
