No disruptions expected this summer at ER in Steinbach or Ste. Anne
Emergency rooms (ERs) in Steinbach and Ste. Anne are expected to continue with their regular hours of operation this summer. That is according to Dr. Timothy Gosselin, Associate Chief Medical Officer for Southern Health-Sante Sud.
The ER at Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach is open 24 hours a day, seven days per week. In Ste. Anne, their ER is open daily from 8 am to 4 pm.

Seven homes destroyed by fire on Manitoba First Nation, community's leadership says
A wildfire in northern Manitoba has destroyed seven homes in a day the chief and council of the local First Nation are calling "horrendous."
Officials of Tataskweyak Cree Nation say in a Facebook post that a fire that ignited northwest of the community on Friday was fanned by strong winds, and that approximately 175 residents have been evacuated east to Gillam, Man.
Tataskweyak was evacuated earlier in the fire season and had lifted the order in mid-June, but then had to push back the date when people could return due to problems with its water system.

Steinbach's Canada Day fireworks deemed safe despite storm
Steinbach city officials have clarified their decision to proceed with the Canada Day fireworks display during a stormy evening.
Weather conditions closely monitored
According to city parks staff and Canfire Pyrotechnics—the company responsible for fireworks displays since 2022—satellite weather maps were monitored throughout Canada Day. Officials noted that the storm passing through Steinbach appeared on the maps only later in the evening.
"The decision to proceed was based on weather conditions observed at the park," said city officials.
Local athlete heads to Kelowna with Football Manitoba
At just 15 years old, Braeden Sinclair has earned a spot with Football Manitoba.
Despite only playing the sport for three years, Sinclair has already made a big impact. His football career began with the Eastman Raiders, and he quickly fell in love with the game.
“Just everything in general. The team play and just playing for myself too. Just making myself a better person and people around me too.”
Measles cases spike in southern Manitoba
As measles cases rise throughout the province, Manitobans are encouraged to take precautions.
Dr. Aly Dhala, Vice-President of Medical Services and Chief Medical Officer for Southern Health–Santé Sud, says there are 116 confirmed cases as of June 28 — many in the southern region.
An unplanned adventure across the country
On Monday morning, June 30, friends Lauren Laninga and Celina Peters unexpectedly set out on a cross-country road trip.
