Australia reopening its market to Canadian Beef sends an important message

Australia has officially opened its market for fresh and frozen beef from Canada for the first time since BSE in 2003.

The Canadian Cattle Association is pleased noting its one of the last remaining countries to have maintained bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) restrictions, complete their risk assessment and open their market for Canadian beef. 

CCA President Tyler Fulton says Canadian beef farmers and ranchers are proud to produce the highest quality and safest beef in the world. 

Moose Jaw honours the Szeles as July's Notoriously Good Neighbours

Mike and Katie Szeles have been recognized as Moose Jaw’s latest 'Notoriously Good Neighbours.'

The honour, presented by the City of Moose Jaw and the Moose Jaw & District Chamber of Commerce, highlights residents who embody the spirit of Canada's most Notoriously Friendly City through consistent kindness and community involvement.

The Szeles were nominated by neighbours Sheila and Brian Leahy, who described them as a caring, reliable presence in the neighbourhood.

Wildfire smoke makes July 2025 smokiest on record in southern Sask.

The wildfire smoke that has been a recurring and unwanted guest across southern Saskatchewan has officially put July 2025 into the record books. 

“Using data from Regina, the previous smokiest July was just last year, in July of 2024 with 103 hours of smoke,” said Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologist Crawford Luke. 

“As of today, in July 2025, we’re at 104 hours of smoke, so 2025 is now the new record holder for smokiest July on record.” 

Subdividing continues along River Street West

Moose Jaw city council approved more subdivisions on River Street West on Monday as it continues to correct lot boundaries and pave the way for a new hotel. 

At issue were the lots on the north side of the zero block of River Street West and a parcel of land on the southeast corner of the intersection of First Avenue Northwest and River Street West. 

Trial for former Estevan Bruin to be heard in Court of King’s Bench

The trial for former Estevan Bruins hockey player Mason Strutt will be heard in Moose Jaw’s Court of King’s Bench by judge and jury. 

Defense lawyer Kathryn Gilliss appeared in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Tuesday via telephone on Strutt’s behalf. It was noted during the proceedings that Gilliss and Strutt submitted the election of Court of King’s Bench by judge and jury in a written submission to the courts on Monday. 

New road closures in place today

Several ongoing projects are joined by some new additions as the City of Moose Jaw announces another round of road closures this morning.

Work continues on the1000 block of 3rd Ave NE and 900 block of Athabasca St W for pipebursting. Road repairs are also continuing on the 1000 block of 6th Ave NW and the 1500 Hochelaga St W.
